how to post a big picture

Im having trouble trying to post pictures.
i have seen big pictures posted. they look great.
it keeps saying file too large. 150kb -- 600pix wide.
i sized it down till it said was 150 but just cant get it.

so what is the best way to post a good big picture?

The only way I know how is to post the pic on your personal web space that your internet supplier may provide, or use one of the online services like Photobucket. Set up a sign in with them, post it there, and then link to it using the small picture icon, very left one above the row of smiley faces.

This way there is no limit on the size of the image as it is stored elsewhere.

Photo posting instructions are here:

To downsize your pix under 150kb, use a program such as the FREE program irfanview . Get it from www.irfanview.com .

150kb is plenty big. This photo is 600 pixels wide and 91kb, well under the limit. Good enough eh?

To post a larger picture, you can use a free host. We often use www.tinypic.com because you don't need a hosting account. Just follow the instructions and paste the URL (web address) between [ img ] and [ / img ]

FYI, our 150kb file limit exists because some people try to post huge files directly from their camera -- sometimes as large as 10 megabytes. You should always crop and convert your photos to a smaller size before posting on forums -- any forums. That will make it easier to view for people with slower connections.

native pictures off of a camera are huge (typically). I save them to my pc from my camera, then upload them to photobucket.com (free picture hosting site). They only allow a maximum size, so when you upload a picture to their site, it will automatically minimize the picture to their maximum allowed size.

I do that so that I can keep the pictures saved on my pc in their native size (in case I want to do something with them in the future). By simply uploading the native pic to photobucket, it's automatically sized down to a nice "web-sized photo."

it really is a simple process...

The following pic fills my 28 inch monitor, plus some. All I did was post it to my photobucket account, and this is how it comes out:

(This is the maximum size if you use photobucket)

I'm also using the irfanview software to downsize digital pics, after my son showed me how to do it. Very easy to do. ;)

I use FastStone Image Viewer, which is also free, and it is super simple to use. You might check it out.

This is one that I have stored on Imagecave. I usually reduce their size, but I will post this one as it was uploaded to see how big it looks.

And here's one of mine, reduced using irfanview. Thanks, I need the practice.

I use Vue Print. I send the picture to my desk top then I go to the desk top and open it. You can then go to file at the top of the page and click on resize. You can set it the sze you want. Then click on save.I find it is a lot quicker than Potobucket.
