How to Glass Bed - Tutorial Videos (Part 2 Now Posted)

We just posted part one of our tutorial videos to teach folks about glass bedding. This video covers the prep, mixing and application of the bedding material. We use Acraglass from Brownells but also realize many folks have strong opinions regarding the material used. The steps are the same with regard to prepping the stock. Just make sure you follow the instructions of whatever material you choose to use.

The rest of the videos are coming shortly.

Informative; thank you.
One suggestion I might make to the producer is to reconsider the "background" noise (music?) in the video. It's truly annoying IMO. ;)

I strongly agree with this comment, I fast forwarded through as much as I could as to not have to hear anymore then necessary.

Re: How to Glass Bed - Tutorial Video

I appreciate the feedback. I can tone the music down. The issue is I felt it important to show the motions he was going through, even at a fast speed. That requires some audio or it just becomes oddly disconnected. The real-time process is far too long and boring to simply film and post.

Hey Travelor. I'm going to upload that one shortly. I was excited to have the first part finished so I uploaded. I'll come and paste a link as soon as it is live.

Sincerely,
Bill

I applaud your efforts and im glad you took the time to make/post it. But that music- it sounds like r2d2 walked into the middle of a bunch of telemarketer cubicles.

I'm re-scoring the music now.

I was always told to tape the rear, sides, and bottom of the recoil lug. Did I miss something here? Of course I havn't bedded any rifles in probably 15 years, or so.

I always used to as well. I taped to muzzle side of the recoil lug, sides and bottom to make the gun easier to remove and re-install. My customers all complained that since the guard screw holes had been relieved to not touch the guard screws this would allow slight movement in the receiver when assembling, instead of holding the recoil lug firm against the glass. George and Ikey used to argue about this, each claiming the other was mistaken and then they wouldn't speak to one another for weeks. I bowed to customer pressure, although I think if you are sure the recoil lug is firmly abutted it doesn't hurt. A bit of space also insures you don't ding the glass when seating the action. If that is your standard procedure I say it sounds good to me. N.A. Niblick

My son has a Rem. 700 30/06 that won't shoot, so I'm going give a bed job. I thought maybe my way of bedding had gone by the wayside.
