how to do a 6BRX

Hi all,

Iam thinking of doing a 6BRX but have a few questions about the neck turn. Do you neck turn the whole 6br neck then fire form or do you only neck turn the section of the neck that will be the new BRX neck. I hope iam clear enough.

Thank you for your replys.

WHY, turn the necks at all?

If you are not already into this ACT, WHY do it?

.272 and let the good times roll.

I would go with a 0.271 or 0.272 on turn neck. I have 2 - 0.272 neck BRX, they both shoot great. I had 7 - 1st place aggs a 2 2nd place in 06' at IBS 600yd benchrest, and a score Record. A friend shot a 50 score 1.2" last week with his No Turn BRX. But if you do turn, just turn past were the new shoulder will be, go with a 0.269" just to clean up.

I fireform my 6BRX without turning necks for my 0.272 chamber. I shoot the fireform load in F-Class Open matches so I get something out of them. See this site under the 6 Improved header for information on using fireform loads in a 6BRX. I shoot a 1 in 7" twist barrel and cannot shoot the loads mentioned in this article. Look for starter loads for a 6BR and use them for your first fireform loads, afterall that is what you are shooting. You can develop your own loads for your own gun once you have the fireformed shells. Once there you can back down and develop an accurate fireform load to use in matches. As always look for high pressure signs and do not go too high. Don't go too low on powder and get a reduced load high pressure problem. Jamming the bullets deep into the lands will cause increased pressure. If you are not an experienced reloader find someone who is and get their help in developing loads. You do not want to miss a pressure sign and go too high or low. Good Shooting.

Thanks guys,

I think a .271 might be the go so I can fire an unturned shell and still be able to clean up the neck after to get rid of any lumps and bumps.
How much of the neck do you size? and what sort of loads are you guys using, I plan on a 8 twist lilja 3 groove at about 28 inches long.

Any other info on the BRX will be much appreciated.

Mitchell,

everyone is a little "schitzy" about publishing reloading data on this forum.

Rel-15 has been an EXCELLENT BRX powder with 105 Bergers.

Work up from BR loads, and you will find the sweet spot for your rig.

Good luck,

Ed

I am currently shooting 34 grains of N-150 with mollied 105s. I use the Rem 7.5 or CCI br4s. My barrel is a 8in. twist Broughton. This load is a golf tee killer at 200yds. I have also shot 600-37xs at 600yards prone w/ irons with this load. However, Varget, N-140, and Re-15 all should work well.

Hi Ed

I have been shooting moly since 1995 or so. Don't know no different. How is your scale working for you?

Scott

Hi Ed

My chamber is long throated. I use N-150 to get better load density. However there is another reason. If you care to email me privately or call me, I will be happy to share with you my findings.
