How to chamber a 22 long rifle

Hello
Want to learn how to chamber a 22 long rifle barrel on a 2500x receiver.
Have done several center fire rifles barrels and have a solid understanding on how to.
22 long rifle is a different story and need more details ,watched utube and am missing something? Their math doesn’t seem to work.
Thx for the help!

I’ve done mucho rimfires. It’s all about the driving bands on the bullet. With the popular straight side reamers I simply advance the reamer until the lands engrave half way into the second driving band. Chambering rimfires is actually a fairly simple endeavor.

Hi
Are you using a go gage or sample bullet
And we’re to stop the reamer in relation to the head spacing number?so if head space is .047 would the reamer stop at say .105 headspace so the bolt closing would end up being .047?

I set my headspace to my ammo I shoot . Sounds funny but each brand , lot , type have dif rim thickness and the majority of the bolt guns have the recess in the bolt nose so the important part is determining the engraving on the bullet . Go short , you can always make it longer . My preferred reamer is a modified win 52 chamber .

So how do you determine your headspace number were to stop the reamer?

I didn’t use a headspace gauge at all. I use a live round and measure the protrusion of the case from the breech face. Start measuring when the case is in the neighborhood of .135 out of the barrel. It should engrave beyond the second band there. You can get a good idea how far you need to go in from there. The last couple passes with reamer will be a few thousands only till you get the land mark right at the center of the second band. That proved to be a good place to be over a bunch of barrels. I never had a round go off in the lathe, but I always had a 5 gallon bucket of sand a few feet to the left of the spindle.

A 22 Smith I had do mine basically said the same thing about how much to engrave. Different reamer for different ammo.. Also, polish the chamber more than a centerfire? That's what I was told. It seems to work great in mine.

I have watched a few more videos and the headspace is usually .040 if you screw the receiver on and your cartridge is sticking out .135 and you close the bolt it’s going to push it in to the .040 dimension and then you’re saying you look at your engraving?

So how do you determine your headspace number were to stop the reamer? Cut and measure . Same as centerfire . I make a dummy cartridge from the ammo I plan to use . Check bullet engraving frequently.
You could mark or use a stop on your reamer but its not really needed .
Not sure how my response got into your post . Dog is on my lap and makes typing difficult.
