How often should you clean your 6x47 brake?

Apparently more often than never.
Oh, I ran a brush through it whenever I cleaned the bore, but honestly they never got a thorough inspection/cleaning. Unsurprisingly I started having consistentsy issues. Three round groups would always present a 1 inch flyer at 100yds. I revisited all my brass prep procedures, then decided to shoot without the break and hallelujah.
I inspected my brake and could not believe how bad the baffles are/were chunked up with carbon. I spent considerable time cleaning and had a good range session today. So I guess I answered my own question. More often than never.

I have had guys shooting next to me complain about my filthy brakes before I realized how bad they had gotten. They blow a lot of carbon off when they get real bad. I only pull them off my varmint rigs at the end of the season for a sonic clean. Can't say I ever noticed accuracy changes.

Your brake would have to be so dirty that chunks were getting in the way.
What a lot of people don't realize with a brake especially the self timing ones
is you have to put it back on exactly the same position every time.
If it's a 1/8 turn off or you have the locking collar off a full turn, it will
change your groups. It's just like a tuner on the end.

I’ve cleaned mine by soaking in vinegar to loosen things up and then brushing. I might try the CLR next time since I don’t have a sonic cleaner. Just going by the color, the fouling looks like mostly copper on mine.

I looked at my brake on my 6X47 lap after 1800 rounds. I got out my drill ana good fitting bit and man that carbon was hard. I will see if the accuracy is better.

That's how I got started with a cleaning regimen. I did the same thing using 320 grit wrapped around a brass brush and went from 1 1/2" flyers to 3/4" flyers. After I cleaned the baffles, the flyers stopped.

HMMM..... Every time I clean I put my brake in a pill bottle full of Butches bore shine. Sometimes for a 1/2 hr....some time for DAYS. Simply spray it off with break cleaner before I re-install. Not sure it helps at all. I guess I should actually INSPECT them to see what shape they REALLY are in!!

My 6X47 lapua shoots in the 2's now at 100 yards. Cleaning helped the accuracy.

I use a 30-cal brake on my Dasher to avoid cleaning issues. I shoot a lot and am too lazy to remove them every time. I only clean my brakes at barrel changes (2500 rounds or so). The difference in recoil reduction between a 6mm brake and a 30-cal is quite small so you aren't giving up much.
