Wife and I were out looking at a new house for sale near my rifle range. We stopped there after a 450 yard paper match. Range officer told of a competitor shooting a 1.007" ( I think on all these details) at 450 yards.
I met the man who shot it in the WIND and saw the target. 10 shots = "I believe".
He used a Bostrom custom Dasher, with McGowen barrel that has a blown-out throat, fire-cracked for 4" and about 6,000 rounds through it.
He loaded 38+ grains of some kind of 4350 behind 105 Berger Hybrids way out to come close to what is left of the throat.
He regularly cleans with a very abrasive bore paste and it's not J.B.
I bought some of those hybrid 105's for my Dasher. Just tried to load 4350 in my Lapua cases. Tapping and squirming and shaking can get me 36.1 gr. 1/2 way up the neck. Then seating works but during measurement the powder pushed the bullet back up the neck. You cannot seat and hold enough neck tension it's so overfilled.
What do I believe other than the group? A 6,000 rd. bbl that shoots < 1/4moa? 38 gr. of 4350 in a Dasher?
My leg did not feel pulled.
