How much should my case neck expand after fired? .010"??

I am still struggling with my 700 Varmint SF Swift. I was resizing some Norma brass that was fired though it and I noticed after just popping a primer out to check head space dimension that the die was beginning to put a .010 step down on the neck diameter meaning there is .010" slop in the chamber. Is this normal? I can't say I have noticed this before when loading for my other rifles.

My vls 6mm measures .007" larger than fresh sized brass and .005" larger than loaded brass. This swift just won't group so it had me curious.

Off the shelf dies are famous for sizing way to much.
Remove the expander and size a case, measure, then compare to a loaded round.
Let us know what you find.

After fired it is .010" large in diameter than brand new Norma cases. If I recall new was .249" and mine is .261ish. the new is identical to the resized. It is .001" or .002" bigger once the bullet is seated. So am I correct in assuming the neck area of the chamber is a thou or so bigger than .261"?

It appears minimum chamber spec for the neck is .260" so......I guess all is well. Sometimes I like to take the long way around ;D

.261 isn't bad. I have just switched to Norma from Win brass in my swift, so I can't answer as to case life... But the Win had much thicker necks. Loaded rounds were running around .259 with win. My Norma is about on par with yours- it's much thinner. My rifle shoots much better with the Norma, so I'm going to run with it and see how long it lasts.

I was getting about 12 firings out of win before primer pockets would loosen (full length sizing every time, no annealing). I'm only on 3x firings with Norma. Will probably start annealing since there is so much neck clearance...

SAAMI calls for a larger (0.2625") neck for the Swift. That is why your fired necks are large.

Just keep the necks annealed and they will last a looooong time.
