how many round to burn out this barrel and what new gun to build

My buddy just built a 338 whisper rifle. It a 7mmbr case necked up to 338cal. hes loading 16 grains of H4227 powder some times red dot .
when we went shooting all he does is shoot it never has to let the barrel cool down. just a guess how many rounds do you think he could get out of it

now i would like to build some thing like that,more shooting less cooling. but not have to pay for the 300mk bullets hes getting good groups till 600 yards but with alot of drop. would like to trade some barrel life for more speed. but what round 22br 6br my action is for a 308 bolt face.

I would rather stear you towards a 300 whisper.. built on a 221fireball case.

Then you have a option from 110-240 grain bullets, cheap bulk bullets for plinking, and 220 smk for some hard hitting sub-sonic rounds.

With this case, I would guess you will get 20-30 000 rounds, if not more. I really cant see the petite 221 case necked up to 30 cal as a barrel burner!


The 6mm, 6,5, 7, and 30 all have cheap bulk bullets, and will let you shoot untill your fingers are sore. Just do it on the Fireball case, so you can feed it from a magazine!
