How many racers/tuners/engine builders out there?

Drag, circle track, road? Cars, bikes, boats? Racers/former racers, engine builders, tuners? A recent post about cleaning carbon from barrels turned into a discussion on using nitrous oxide for decarbonizing which turned into using nitrous to help get a turbo car off the line. And there's been other past posts too that lead me to believe that there's a number of shooters on this forum with racing backgrounds. Stand up and be counted!

Here's some pics from my former life as a dragbiker. A turbo Kawasaki running 28 lbs boost on gas. Would run high sevens/166-168 mph - all day long - if I did my part ;D

I did it for about 10 or 12 years . I also had my son in a Jr dragster when he turned 8 years old . probably the most fun I ever had . life has a way of changing things . I built my car . it would run high 8's with the iron block motor ,406ci using 2 carbs . the bigger motor ,432ci aluminum rodeck with a flying toilet alky injection set up would run the car in the low 8.3's about 160mph .

I built my wife a nitrous snowmobile that ran 160 mph in 1/4 in 2004 on ice.

;D

I raced AFM roadbikes in Northern CA for a couple years...pretty much a poor privateer racing 250 Production on a budget...great fun and some great tracks!

Rode flat track motorcycles for 16 yrs ( 1 1/2 years out doing recuperative research). My wife owned, wrenched an XR750.

I did the motocross circuit for a lot of years until injuries and not being crazy enough to go any further lead me to race bike set ups and mods. Along the line I tried dirt track, drag bikes and some road racing, or more often, setting up bikes for other racers.
Now I have switched to a sport where a bad day at the range does not end in traction and plaster casts, but I can still use my tinkering abilities to tune and set up rifles. (Even though my gun smithing abilities amount to fitting a scope).

Did various types of racing with older cars. Best of all was doing the PA hillclimbs in a hot-rodded '69 911. Ran at Giant's Despair, Weatherly, Rose Valley and a few other venues. Wonderful experience; great people everywhere I went.

Hottest I've ever been was in the staging lane at the Duryea hillclimb, in fire suit, helmet, boots, gloves, about noon in summer. All forgotten at the start. 100% concentration thereafter.

I remember another driver becoming incapacitated in his car, because of the heat. Good times. 8)

In my high school days, I had a Arctic Cat 250Z super stock snowmobile and the factory modified kit for it.. I raced either class in PSSA and USSA oval ice tracks throughout the Northeast and some summer grass drags..

You're talkin my language there ;)

We weren't into photography back in the early 60s :D but rather tearing up the 1320 ;D I had a 1953 HenryJ with a nicely built 401 Buick nailhead punched out to 425 shoehorned into the chassis 8)

Thanks, all, for sharing your experiences. Great reading, so far. Keep 'em coming!

Drag raced for many years. Built about 4 or 5 cars. Always ran bracket cars. Last car was an 85 Camaro that I built tubed out with a 468 and a turbo 400. Ran high 9s and low 10s in the heat of the summer. Just sold it a couple of years ago. Just got to expensive for me. Still miss it to this day...
