How many bullets does it take to.....Part 2

mikegaiz

Stay frosty, my friend.
This is a continuation from my first post "How many bullets does it take to......."

Now that you have your barrel brake in done. What do you do next. Do you start varying the powder charge to establish a group or do you pick a load in your sweet-spot from ladder test and do seating depth testing?

I work in the powder range from my ladder test. Then I may work at seating depths. My 2 most recent load work ups I haven't needed to work at seating depths. They have both worked very well at .010 out.

Generaly with the last dozen or so barrels I have tuned, I have started with powder charge to get it to the node, then fine tuned it with bullet seating. Once it is pretty good, and I get some good calm conditions at longer ranges (800-1000yds) I try to refine the powder load a bit more, then maybe slight tweeks to the seating depth if need be.
But then this is with top class long range target rifles for major competitions. With my hunting rifles, and play guns, I dont go as far. What sort of shooting do you do and what sort of accuracy expectations are you after?

I am in the process of getting two new 1000 YD. guns ready for this season. Using Kreiger barrels on Bat actions. Just trying to see if my processes are flawed. You can always learn something new.
thanks
