How many 22/250 shooters load down to .223 Velocities?

Except for the abundance and powder capacity of .223 brass I'm wondering why I should buy a .223 when a 22/250 could be loaded up or down and have more versatility? How many of you do this? Bob

I personally do not load my 22-250 slow, but I had a good friend that does. He uses 18 grs of RL-7, Remington primers, and a 50 grain SBKs out of a 28 inch 14tw barrel and achieves AMAZING groups.

The .22-250 is a very flexible cartridge. The 22-250 can do well really, anywhere between 1500 and 4500 FPS.

It is a 'dime a dozen' caliber, and it is because it is SO flexible. It is a forgiving cartridge that will accept many loads with consistent accuracy. The limiting factor with the 22-250 is the bullets you can use because of barrel twist rate.

I just made up some 22/250 loads using win brass/br2 primers/33.0grs IMR4895/75gr Hornady A-max molly loaded to the manuels oal and should be running out of a 26' tube at 3300fps if not a little faster. I ran the data with Hornadys ballistic software and came up with what 'I' consider the best long range load for the 22/250 for what I want to do with it. Its showing -258.7' at 1000yrds. I thin the .223 is a little under 2900 with 75grs of bullet. I don't know if this is loading down to 223 as much as loading up in bullet weight to get way better performance than the 223. I am also going to have a rifle built around this load...Stiller tac30 action with 24' bartlein w/1-8.5 twist, Manners MCS-T stock, and some good glass in the 3-12x range. Good luck to ya!
