How Important Is Balance With A F-TR Rifle?

I have a new .308 build that comes in at 17.3#. So I have about 3/4# I could add to it. It's slightly barrel heavy, but not bad. Balances at the trigger guard, or slightly ahead.

Do I put the weight in the forearm, rear of stock(somewhere between...or around the adjustable buttplate and cheekpiece), or some where else? Using a Duplin Bi Pod.

Or...what would be the best way for me to add 1/2# or so?

I like mine balanced 1/2 way between the bipod and rear bag. Too far forward results in vertical.

Opportune places to put weight in a stock are very much rifle specific. I like to make things easy to remove if I were to change barrel profiles on the next barrel. Recently, I've been pouring molten lead into thin walled aluminum tube to make weights. Those tubes are a snug fit in a hole drilled in the butt and secured with a little epoxy.

Be sure to work safely!

Put the weight in lead into a bag and tap to the rifle... move it around and see where things work best for you.

Stock, bipod, how you hold will all affect "best" balance.... I set my balance point at the recoil lug... when I pick up the rifle my hand is under the recoil lug area/front of the action. This works best for me

Good luck.

Mine balances just in front of action. And no problems. So adding weight for you to balance isn't a must. Some top guys say right at front of action is where to balance rifle

Plus 308, not going to do much. I don't think by adding the weight for you will reduce recoil. Some add weight for balance and for reducing felt recoil. Just my two cents
