How hot is to Hot?

For some reason this did not post earlier...

At what temperature does barrel degradation beguine...I know length and caliber and diameter all play into the correct answer but is there a range for a barrel getting to hot.
To hot to handle is a common answer but what temperature is that...I can hold a hotter barrel longer than some and some can hold one longer than I so I'm trying to find a numerical range if one exist.

For one itll start walking shots, my way of judging is if i lick my finger and touch it somewhere around the scope bell and it is too hot to be comfortable then i quit there
