How far off lands for A-Max bullets

In my 7mmWSM 162gr A-max touching the lands is producing poor accuracy. How far off the lands are y'all seating A-Max bullets ?

Without much more info I don't think anyone would be able to give you a proper answer.

What exactly does poor accuracy mean , the group strings horizontally?? If it's grouping in a large pattern then it might be more than a BTO adjustment that is needed.

Custom or factory gun? I usually just touch the lands for an amax as I hunt them a lot and don't want to be too far into the lands for fear of pulling the bullet which has happened to me but not with an amax. I find the bullet to be very forgiving and usually can get any gun to shoot to IT'S max potential with them but the gun has to be able to do it.

I started a thread that was titled "We Need Better Questions". I received some criticism but this is a good example of what I was talking about. I am not being critical of this OP in any way but I have noticed that folks that give adequate detail with their questions get some really great answers and help right away and folks that do not give adequate detail have a much more difficult time getting what they need.

Accuracy is a function of finding the right barrel, powder, bullet, brass, primer combination.

Once you've found the right combination you should be producing tight clover leaf groups.

Then, Fine Tuning with Neck Tension and Seating Depth should turn the cloverleafs into one hole groups.

Sounds as if you need to concentrate on finding the initial combination before working on the fine tuning. :)

If I understand your objective, you simply want to know what others are using so you have somewhere to start your testing. While that may seem reasonable, your rifle is unique among others of the same general type. What works for your fellow shooter's 7mm won't necessarily work for yours.
Your barrel is a given; it's already a part of the rifle. You may well be like many of us who can't afford to buy a pound of every type of powder to identify the "perfect" propellant. Your brass, while important, isn't critical to obtaining a group under 1.5 MOA and even with greenie stickum caps as primers you should be able to do better than 1.5 MOA.
The "circle" suggests, IMO, that you've got some shooter issues included in the problem. But for starters, I'd try backing out of the lands in .002 increments shooting three round groups to see what, if anything, changes. Don't be hesitant to try .030 - .040 jumps. Sometimes the sweet spot is a long way from the lands.
Good luck .....

In my 7mm wsm I am shooting a 162amax over 66.5gr h1000 cci mag primer with winchester 300wsm brass necked down and fireformed. I'm getting consistent .25" groups with the bullets seated .01" crammed into the lands. This seating depth is not typical for amaxes but seems to work best with my rifle.
