How do F Class matches work on electronic targets?

So there's a nice range near me that is going to have electronic targets operational out to 1000 yard in 2018 and they plan to run F class, benchrest and service rifle matches. I've never shot an official match but am aware how it works with a squad of 4 guys (shooting, scoring, pulling and pasting). How does this typically work out on electronic targets? Do you basically just shoot and leave enough time between strings to let barrels cool?

The 2 I've been to were shoot - score - rest

1st one we went round and round till finished.
2nd one we waited for everybody to finish each 20 shot match.

Shooter and scorer both get a laptop.

You know yet what ET system’s going into that range? Or can you give us the range’s name?

F-Class had their last two Nationals shot at Winnequah Gun Club near Lodi, WI this year & last, on a full-range (32 points I think) SMT system installed last year.

They are looking at Suis Ascor targets. To my knowledge, nothing is set in stone yet. I have heard they are making good headway moving a massive amount of dirt. I am looking forward to shooting here as well. We are blessed in TN, soon to have 3 x 1000 yard ranges.

Many around here are waiting to hear when this range is going to have matches? Would like to know myself.

I will be running the prone matches at Dead Zero. I hope to be running matches by April of next year. The high power range has been cleared and they are working on rough grading right now. I will have some of the best shooters and coaches in the country on-site to evaluate range layout and E targets from different manufacters by the end of this year, hopefully. We intend to run 1-2 prone and Fclass matches a month. I will start a thread here when we get closer to the opening date. The intention is to have a world class venue for the shooting sports. It is a beautiful setting. There will be shotgun, 3 gun, IDPA, PRS, Benchrest and other disciplines as well. The HP range faces due North and we are clear cutting on both sides of the range. The owners are truly passionate about making this facility as good as it can be. Stay tuned.

And Matt knows what he is talking about! Can't wait for this range to get up and running. Beautiful part of the country also.. Long time no see Matt. Greg Murray

You can come to one of our upcoming 600 yard F Class matches at Big Piney Sportsmans Club and see first hand how they run the SMT electronic scoring and the match. It is a lot of fun and a great group of shooters. Check out their website for the schedule.
Good luck

I’ve shot 3 different ways in matches at different ranges/clubs. One was pair firing. Where both shooters lay down and one shoots then the next shoots and so on. The next was both bring equipment to line and one shooter shoots and as soon as they are finished the next guy starts. One scores for the other. The other was just like normal. One shoots while other scores. Line is called safe and shooter switches out and takes equipment off the line and the other brings theirs. Switch off that way.

These matches go faster than traditional where there are pit changes. So barrels get hot and stay warm all day

Can't wait. That's a 42 minute drive almost all interstate. That will beat pulling targets in the hot sun all day.

You've got me beat, Google says 45 minutes for me, straight down highway 111. Will be a wonderful distraction from 2700 bullseye matches, I've shot nearly 15 matches this year and hit expert this year.

So approximately what is the time required to shoot a match on electronic targets versus on paper (pulling, marking and rotating positions)?

sometimes not too good

Another thing I'm curious about, are the electronic targets just all black? The little I've shot informal f class at farms I remember using the rings and numbers to hold off center. If all black that could be more of a challenge by removing all reference points. Of course everyone would have the same hindrance.

You still shoot at an actual f class target so you still have rings to use for holds. If its a 3x600 or 3x1000 they usally go a little quicker than a match where you pull targets. But if you are shooting 3 different distances then in my experience they take about the same amount of time because someone has to go to the pits and change the target faces out

no, not all black. Look like normal. Actually better contrast than old paper.

I think the time is dependent on the organizers.
Could be really fast if they wanted it to be but I get the impression they sort of expect it to take all morning so it does.

I was told that the scoring center can be offset from the visual center.
You dial it in with the wind in sighters but you can be off of true.
