How diffacult it is to pillar bed a Ruger M77 Mkii flat bottom non tang safety?

I might end up restocking one that I own that has the huge varmint target stock from Ruger. I am thinking about shortening the barrel from 26" down to 23" and threading for a can. I figured putting it in a light weight piece of Walnut like a rollover or Monte Carlo style would be handy.

I do not have a light handy 308 they are all long heavy target or varmint rifles. This one has the thiniest barrel profile. I sure plenty are familar with how much thinner the Ruger varmint barrels are than say a Remington or Winchester or Savage

If I am going to put a new stock on the old girl I was figuring it might not be a bad idea to pillar bed it. I have never done a Ruger with that odd swiveling front action screw!

I considered just glass bedding because I thought that might be a lot easier given the odd nature of the Ruger M77 Mkii.

Opinions?

Just do the front 2 inches and you might be shocked that's all it needs.

The other issue is the mag box needs to be so it's slightly loose.

Process is the same as any other rifle. Only difference is the front screw is angled. On those thin whippy barreled ones I have found that a pad of bedding right at the fore end really helps too.

Ive done a few. I forgot whos pillar kit i used. High score maybe..but that may have been for a 700.
It just seems weird because the from pillar is at an angle.
it made a noticeable improvement. I was very happy

These are what i have used

PTG Pillar Glass Bedding Columns Ruger 77, 77 Mark II
Product #: 874663

I've done a fair number of them....they're pretty common in my area. Front pillar takes a little bit of reverse thinking to get it right. I do the pillars in two steps...first the rear with a sleeve and guide pin. After the epoxy sets up, the front goes in with the sleeve and guide pin in the rear acting as a guide.

Good shootin' :) -Al
