How did the Dasher get its name?

I love my Dasher! I have often wondered where the Dasher part of its name came from. Its probably so obvious no one else has asked, but I would like to hear from someone who knows. Whoever created this really hit on a great combination. ???Thanks, George

Dave Kiff could tell ya'. I'm pretty sure is is from the initials of the designer's name(s). How about Blitzen? ;)

Designers were Dowling & Asher. PT&G’s print No. 251. Take a guess as to where the name came from.

You mean its not named after a car?

Dasher: 1975 - 1980

Modernly known as the Passat.

Kind of off subject:
The best parts about the Dashers, 22 and 6mm, is that they don't stretch, they are almost always accurate with what ever you put in them, and they make you wonder why the 22-250s and the .243 Win don't out perform them. I think it must be rocket science. Dowling and Asher were really on to it when they made the Dasher, talk about efficient. I have several in 22 and 6mm and I seldom shoot anything else. My favorite is a 14 twist VAIS muzzle braked fireform barrel that Mike Bryant rechambered for me from 22-250 that is on a completely stock SPS other than bolt ons (trigger, firing pin, stock, etc.). I don't understand why it shoots so good, it sure didn't as a 22-250. Of course Mike touched it as well so it probably wasn't chambered straight to a gazillionth
of an inch even though the rifling is a rasp. I have another barrel that Alf sold me (22-250) and as soon as I can/need that too will be a Dasher.

There's an article in Precision Shooting magazine back in the early 2000-01 or 02 I think it is. Al Ashton wrote the article and had Dan Dowling do the work on the first gun with this name. Hence the name "Dasher". The first was chambered in 22 and not the 6mm, but the 6 has certainly taken over for popularity.
A very good detailed article and interesting read.
