How close was that match?

Just reviewed a match from last year. The difference between 1st. place and 5th. place was .035 per target in Group and .75 points per target in score.

I have seen many matches last year where one shot was the difference between 1st. and 5th. or higher.

Get used to it terry, that’s bench rest. National matches with higher attendance are usually decided by just frog hairs.

You were at the First Ga. 600/1000 yd, last year.
After two days, of heavy & light gun targets, of both distances, Chris and I were dead even!
We waited for what seemed like forever, after it was all over, for a decision.
I was told by the match director the tie was decided by about .020", over two days, two distances, and a Lot of targets!
We all had a ton of fun that weekend, and can't wait to go back!
Congratulations again Chris!
It was an absolute blast!

The records seem to shrink every year in both 600 & 1,000 yard matches.
Guys like Mike Wilson and Bart Sauter keep raising the bar.
I keep records for our club match (shot at 520 yards due to range constraints). Now beginning our 8th year, the progression of our shooters has been amazing.
It now takes .9" group to even break into the top twenty for small group.
A 1.63" agg will not get into the T20 low eggs for four targets (LG/HG records combined)
A 198/4X barely gets makes 20th spot in the T20 score.
Oh, and the small group size for 1st place is a .602"

Tom, Thanks for the comments and a big hats off to you too sir for some fine shooting! I had a blast as well!
Agree that things have gotten so tight at long range that it’s actually mind blowing at the Precision that is being accomplished these days. I do think some of the success is due to better components being produced but I think more of it is you HAVE to put more time in and pay way more attention to detail as the loading/tuning process unfolds.

Chris

I think the closeness of competition is because the cartidges used are pretty accurate. The trend got away from the big boomers and went to more accurate chamberings. Another thing that helped is sharing info. Between friend's, sites like this and things like the Williamsport Benchrest school have helped tremendously. Years ago the Ole Timers took it to the grave with them. Matt
