Hotel Cost for a hunt

Ammo is x3 and some how hotel increase is a shock?
Nothing is a shock to me in the shooting sports. Either I can afford it or I can't. There's plenty of price hikes going around everywhere. But like I said I seen the writing on the walls. I'm stocked up for years with components and may only be able to go every other year with worse case scenarios. It's definitely cheaper with a buddy or buddies splitting cost. I'm a realist and maybe some might call me foolish, but I'm not taking a thing with me when I die. Travel if you can and shoot it up.

Ammo for a PD hunt in Wyoming was loaded almost 4 years ago. Still here.

Wife got cancer bad and she survived the operations but we obviously could not go. Covid closed the borders and ended it another year. Last year prices started up and we got into commitments. Now the fuel costs to haul my toy hauler 5,000 miles and overall inflation puts us out of the picture.

Probably never get out to PD again. Just a reality of life as it goes on.

Yes Sir, but it’s still a joy to see what each new day brings!

I am only 58, but I have been laying in ammo and sorting my reloading stuff, making handbooks for each rifle, its history, quirks, reloading process. I am organizing it in such a way that each kid/family will get some when I am done with it.

Good that you found good lodging prices. Gas, food and other items will more than make up for it tho. It's just what we all have to deal with. I get finding the best prices but in the end I think it all equals out. The main thing is, this shooting enjoyment memory will last a lifetime. The prices we pay to do it won't be remembered next year. Insignificant really

Wasn’t a shot at you sir! Just overall frustration with ALL the increases. Our hotel was $58 now $85. New owners, but still up. Just way the things are due to( full in the blank) Hope you have a good hunt.

Our annual trip from CA to NE for deer hunting this fall will not be cheap. Towing an enclosed 16' cargo trailer over the Rockies burns a lot of diesel.

I'm hopeful that fuel prices will magically drop ahead of the November elections.....

.
Where do you go? Looking at getting out of Cali for a deer in the not-too-distant future.

John

Hertz Ford Transit van, some 2x12 for a riser, plywood, mattress, portable house AC that stands on its own, vented out a cardboard temporary window. camp stove, state parks to sleep in. Heading west for a month just me and Mrs. Snert, seeing the kids, hopefully shooting some PD. Ya listening Mark??

;) ;):):)
Didn’t you keep your tricked out van from the seventy’s?? I had a buddy that put a waterbed in his. Plush carpet, fridge, roof top AC unit........and dingle balls. Gotta have dingle balls and fuzzy dice hangin from the rear view!

We have a hunting lease by Ericson on the Cedar river. About a mile of river bottom and 3 sections of sandhills. Nice combination of whitetail and mule deer available.

My son found the lease on Grand Island's Craigslist. Has worked out great for us.

No, Josh, I was too young for that fad. I had the clapped out Datsun 620 PU with a mismatched cap and a rollabed. I moved up to the 67 Firebird later.

I had decided an Alaskan hunt would be my last guided hunt so I had a Mountain Goat hunt on Kodiak Island booked for 2024. In the meantime I drew one of eight Arizona NR Goulds turkey tags issued each year. Of course I knew I had to go! Then the guide called from AK with an opening this fall at a reduced price due to a cancellation, so that made two hunts.

Fortunately I booked the flights and made the hotel reservations and car rental months ago. Out of curiosity I keep looking at the same flights if I booked them now. Last check was a 1K increase and still climbing! Lucky I guess. I feel badly for others who are getting caught up in this mess they had nothing to do with. Last year I decided to travel to MT to shoot Nationals when it got moved at the last minute. I would have to pass on a decision like that right now.

Things should start to improve or at least stop getting worse after the midterm elections. Hang in there.

Dave.
