Hornadys new 6mm 120g ATip

The heartland’s strategy in this greatest era 6mm race we are enjoying. My take is BC and HP are spiritual kin, and this approach has worked before ;). Race on.

Competition will be good on our end.
I remember Carson Lilja showing us how good the a-tips bullet splatter reads on steel target plates.

For sure, this one may need new barrels just for it, though. On Berger’s site, they did a write up this summer on their new 120 LRTH taking the podium at Hornady’s Precision Rifle Challenge.

** If Big Red is reading, please make a stupid-long .338 A-Tip for Christmas this year, - something like “338 grains” would be nice and catchy (or 350 grains). Ever since your 250 grain 30 cal eclipsed your 300 grain .338’s BC, - by a lot, there hasn’t been a reason to shoot a .338 LM in matches because a 300 win mag will shoot inside it. Maybe the G1 can start with a “9”? **

My thoughts exactly! I wish they would have just made a 120g ELDM and been a cheaper alternative for us that do PRS/hunt. I don't think Atips are worth the money myself, and I have a hard time paying for Bergers as it is, as I shoot ELDMs in all of my rifles currently. Oh well...Might just have to try the 120 Berger afterall...
 
Dang, atips are just soooooo expensive. Apparently they can compete with bergers or out perform them in some applications, but it's all a balance betweeen cost so you can practice and test the capability of the system.

I think practice and testing is more important for me than the sheer ability of the equipment. I bet that is the most common situation. Only a fraction of people are so good that custom bullets or whatever are the deciding factor in results on target. Imma keep slinging 108s and Bergers or Sierra and get better at reading wind and recoil management!

137gr.. Oh yeah, a bullet half the length of the case it is fired from..
Perhaps it is "tongue 'n cheek" ...?
l can see that Sierra will have to add a 120 to their range of 6mm..
Just a matter of time to get tooled up.
 
My goodness. Does Hornady crank out a new precision rifle bullet every single month?

Other companies have been running the same bullet for over 15 years. And they are frequent match winners

I guess hornady's motto is "If at first you don't succeed try try again."

As @urbanrifleman said..... all Hornady had to do was to make a 6 mm bullet that would run with the bergers and price them $3 less per hundred and they would own the long range Precision world.

But nnoooo... Hornady says let's make some newfangled super techno whizbang Space Age unproven shiznit and price it outrageously because spending more money always means getting better quality.

Hornady is genius at one thing.. getting match shooters to do their R&D for them at no cost or investment of time by Hornady

Competition is good. Hopefully we will get an SMK at 60% of the price

I don't disagree but the ELDs don't run with the Bergers and no one shoots the Aerowhatevers and they know if they want to advertise that a "Hornady" bullets wins this and this it will have to be one that can run with Bergers and that's the Atip. They will still sell millions of boxes of ELDs to the average shooter and hunter. If they didn't move on the 120gr Bergers with something that can compete they would have lost that segment of the market and the advertisement if and when a top shooter wins a big event with a A tip and then obviously they wouldn't be able to have 79 podcast episode to explain why only the bullets and calibers they make work

As stated above competition is good and I really hope Sierra wakes up and joins the extra long High BC party.
