http://forum.snipershide.com/snipers-hide-reloading/199683-hornady-suspend-list.html

Short list, among others:

.224 75/80gr A-max

A Word on Availability

The current political climate has caused extremely high demand on all shooting industry products, including ours. Empty retail shelves, long backorders, and exaggerated price increases on online auction sites – all fueled by rumors and conjecture – have amplified concerns about the availability of ammunition and firearms-related items.

If the information you hear doesn’t originate from Hornady Manufacturing, don’t believe it.

Here are some of rumors we’ve heard, and questions we’ve received:

Have you stopped production, or has the government forced you to stop?
Not at all.
Did you stop selling bullets so you could only make loaded ammunition?
Absolutely not.
Since we can’t find your product you must be selling it all to the government.
Nope, less than 5% of our sales are to government entities.
Why can’t you make more? Ramp up production? Turn on all the machines?
We’ve been steadily growing our production for a long time, especially the last five years. We’ve added presses, lathes, CNC equipment, people and space. Many popular items are produced 24 hours a day. Several hundred Hornady employees work overtime every week to produce as much as safely possible. If there is any question about that – please take a tour of the factory. You’ll be amazed at what you see.

We are producing as much as we can; much more than last year, which was a lot more than the year before, etc. No one wants to ship more during this time than we do.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience. We don’t know when the situation will improve, so please bear with us a little longer. And remember, when it comes to Hornady Manufacturing, if you don’t hear it from us, please don’t believe it.

This was going to happen,I am amazed it didnt happen sooner. They probably want to produce the fastest sellers for now to normalize production rates.

Good thing my 7mmWSM build is gonna take a couple years.....maybe there'll be bullets by then.

On a side note, the only place I've seen this is forums, som outside validation of the source would be nice....

We live in a world of supply and demand, and right now demand is outstripping supply.

Actually we are very lucky, the Mayan calendar end of the world thingy didn't happen, and the assault weapons ban didn't happen.

The shortages will come to an end, and in 26,000 years the Mayan calendar thingy will happen again and you wont be able to buy laser rifle reloading components and fire proof targets.

I'm really surprised at how many Dirty Harry's we have in the U.S. my wife bought me a .44 mag for fathers day and you can't find .44 mag brass for reloading anywhere.

If Boyd Allen would stop shooting for a few days production would be able to keep up. ;)

This is a link to a combined .pdf of the memo to Hornady dealers, on Hornady letterhead, dated 2 July 2013 and faxed to Cimino's Gun & Archery in Wiconsin, stating which of their products are going to be temporarily suspended (Hornady's emphasis, not mine).

I personally combined the files this morning, so the link is good.

No tin foil hattage on my part of some conspiracy...I understand the need for a hard business decision. But this is going to leave a lot of shooters who use many popular Hornady projectiles in a lurch for the rest of 2013.

Believe me, I'd love for this to be little more than a VERY elaborate hoax...I'd be the first to personally apologize to Hornady for stirring up the interwebs.

Well, some of the bullets listed I understand, because of the demand for popular weights/calibers. The 75 and 80 gr A Max are very popular as well as the 60 gr. V Max. That I don't understand. Maybe I just don't see the big picture when it comes to most popular projectiles. If it's true, I will be watching my supplies very closely.

I don't know about everyone else's favorite Hornady bullets but the only one missing from my list is the 105 A-max and as far as I'm concerned they just as well quit making rifle bullets altogether if they are going to pick these bullets to stop producing. As far as the bullet jacket thing goes, they produce their own jackets in house so unless they have ran out of the basic materials I doubt this is the case.

It would have been a shorter list to show the ones they are keeping. I bounced their list of the bullet line in their loading manual and came up with this list that they WILL be making. I looks like much of what they are continuing is mainly their hunting bullets such as SST and GMX. I'll list 22 thru 30 cal since that affects most folks here.
22 cal
50 gr Vmax, 50 gr SP, 50 gr GMX, 52gr BTHP, 53gr Vmax, 53gr HP, 55gr Vmax, 55gr FMJ, 55gr SP, 68gr BTHP, 75gr BTHP

243 Cal
80gr GMX, 87gr Vmax, 95gr SST, 100gr BTSP, 105gr BTHP

25 Cal
90gr GMX, 117gr SST, 117gr BTSP

26 Cal
120gr Amax, 120 gr GMX, 123 gr Amax, 129 gr SST, 140 gr BTHP, 140 gr Amax, 140 gr SST

27 Cal
130 gr GMX, 130 gr SST, 130 gr SP, 140 gr SST

7mm
139 gr GMX, 139 gr SST, 139 gr BTSP, 139 gr SP, 154 gr SST, 162 gr SST, 162 gr BTSP

30 Cal
150 GMX, 150 gr SST, 150 gr FMJ, 150 gr SP, 165 gr GMX, 165 gr SST, 165 gr BTSP, 168 gr Amax, 168 gr BTHP, 178 gr Amax, 180 gr SST, 180 gr SP

Note that letter only addresses ammunition production...not projectile production. More specifically, certain type of projectile production.

Posted at least 3 times above is a verbatim statement from their website saying that less than 5% of their production is sold to the US Gov.
