Hornady Match bullets in 30cal for 308

300 RUM

Gene Nowaczyk
I have been looking at the Hornady Match for some time, more exactly the 30 cal 168-178 gr bullets. I know there have been post about these before, how ever time has passed and I was wondering how the performance is, Do they or can they yield a .2 group etc.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

300 RUM,
IMHO, it's like any other Match Grade Bullet and how well will they perform in your particular rifle. I've tried them in my Ruger .308 that I use strictly for target shooting and is set up for best accuracy. But it doesn't have a modern day Match Grade barrel and dime sized 5 shot groups @100 yds have been achievable, but not using the Hornady 168 gr HPTB. I use Sierra's, but have a drop off when I go to 175 grs (@100 yds) which shoot better at 1000 yds. Bottom line, you'll have to load some and do some testing to find out how your baby likes the Hornady's.

My go-to load for one of my 308's is 43.6gr Varget topped with a 178 Amax. Shoots .2-.3" consistently so the batch I have been using seems to be quite good. I tried a similar load with 175SMK's and can't squeeze groups under .5".
