Just saw Hornady's release video on YouTube. They'll now be offereing 25 CM brass in LR primer configuration. Does that mean they'll be 'legitimizing' it with SAAMI?

If you're going to invest the time and money to making some high BC heavy for caliber 25 cal bullets then also start offering 25 CM brass you'd think they would take the next step to legitimizing a 25 Creedmoor as an official SAAMI cartridge and talk to a few different gun manufacturers about offering it in their rifles.

Personally, I'd rather see a SAAMI 25 PRC based off their 6.5 PRC instead of another CM cartridge but I'm just one person and the masses may disagree.

I just built a 25 Prc

I don't see how they standardize a .25 CM without running into the same situation that Remington did with the .280 or Winchester with the 7mm WSM. Some dimension would or should be changed on account of being so similar to others on either side of it. Plenty of doofuses that will mistakenly shoot 25 from a 6.5, or 6mm from a 25... I wouldn't rule out some Mongo with a 25 on the loose side successfully chambering and firing a 6.5.

Way back when Lapua created the 6.5 x 47, I read an article about the cartidge's development and both size primer pockets were discussed - the heat of brissance factor between the small and the large wasn't so much a factor as was the cartridge strength difference: with the small primer pocket you have more cartridge brass supporting the head area than with the large; by using that configuration, IIRC it was stated that since 6.5 x 47 was intended to be loaded up around 65,000 psi, that both case life would not suffer plus a little bit of case strength insurance would never hurt. Not sure if that was a consideration in other cartridges that have service with both sizes, but that Lapua's logic always made sense to me. I would think some of the others on here that have experience with both sizes in rifle rounds, could offer you advice as to what you could expect but I believe if there was much of a performance disadvantage with the SR primer, they would never have offered it. Having said that, I'm not one to push the envelope in hand loading, and I load my conventional 6.5 CM no hotter than what I interpret to be less than 55-57,000 range; however, if it were a SR case, I would relax that limit a little. I think the 'stated' limit on the 6.5 CM is 62k. Of course that's based on memory and I'm 73 so take it for what it's worth.

How do they compare, LRP v SRP ? I'm having one put together in a 22" Tikka varmint profile, and pondering what brass to go for to push the 130-135 weight bullets.
If, ever intending to Use, a Ball Powder ( or other, Hard to ignite Powder ) or, If, Hunting in, Extremely Cold Weather go with,. Large Primers !
There's very Little Difference, in Accuracy Unless, you Have, a $10,000 Dollar, Bench Rest, Rifle.
If, you "Need" to Push the Envelope On, Load "Pressure" / Velocity,.. go, SRP

You are probably saying what many are thinking.

If it's anything like the hornady 7prc brass I have here it will be rubbish.
I personally believe Hornadys thought on a case being reloaded is not important. As long as you get a real high velocity 1st shot with it's factory ammo that's all they really care about. I've seen several hundred Hornady 7 PRC factory ammo ruin the case on its first firing.
