Hornady click micro seater vs Redding

Anyone have any opinions? I have so far in my limited experience enjoyed using my Redding micro seater in .204. I am wanting to buy a .243 setup and kinda like the clicks and look of the newer Hornady micrometer seating die. They don’t seem to sell a complete setup in .243 but I considered adding another Type S Redding FL die since I am familiar with that in my .204 but could just as easily try using a Hornady one also.

No experience yet but have the Hornady on order. Have used the Redding Comp seater in the past with good results.

So far nothing really bests the Redding Comp Series chamber die that I’ve ever tried. I have one Hornady Match Grade and it’ll be the last. Does not compare to the Redding in performance. Does it matter? I don’t know but the Redding works better (straighter seating).

The clicks on the Hornady are slick to change seating depth a thousandth at a time, I’m a big fan. Just buy the .243 seater and click adjustable micro top separately. I vote for the Forster benchrest FL sizing die.
You know it’s just that big red knob with etched has marks and the clicks that has me wanting one. I love a nice tactile feel as well. I honestly have no complaints with my Redding so far but I am still a noob. The newer Hornady click micrometer looks like a nice step up from their silver one.

The Hornady works great. Have had the Redding too and I like the Hornady with the clicks better. Both will adjust what you need but you have the clicks which help you know how much. Just like the elevation knob on the scope.

Depends what type of discipline you are shooting. For precision I like the L E Wilson Micro seating die and I use the K & M arbor press with the low force set-up. Seating depth is only one part of the equation! In benchrest competition neck tension has a large roll in obtaining tight groups. Other companies make quality seating too, and Redding along with Short Action Customs make excellent seating systems.

I like the looks of the Foster but got the Redding only because that is what I have been using. But for the 6mm GT, it costs almost $200. Hope it is worth that much extra.

You add the Hornady click adjuster to their dies. Not a full set up.

Hope that neck is a full length bushing die or plan to buy more.
I know. I couldn’t find a .243 Hornady seating die to add it to. I looked online for a while last night. The Forster seemed to have superior reviews anyway and I made the decision that all else being equal the only reason to go for the Hornady was looks and clicks. For the price of the Forster I think I did ok compared to other sellers.

I had not planned to add a full length die just bc I don’t shoot more than maybe 100 rounds in 10 years in .243. I have a box of Norma prepped brass that will likely last my lifetime on a single loading. It is an Ohio long range groundhog gun that gets use very rarely. My father in law setup the occasional trip and those have pretty much ended. I just wanted to load for it for very occasional predator/varmint use.

Yeah I was going to say it was pretty surprising he couldn’t find a Hornady .243 seater. They are all over.

And OP if you plan to use only 100 rounds in 10 years then use what you like but I know groundhog guys and they shoot 5x that in a day. lol

Last trip to Ohio I shot 7 times in a weekend. 3 of us trading off shooting and spotting.
