Hornady cam lock bullet puller.

Hey all I have a question about the hornady cam lock bullet puller. Once you pull the bullet is the bullet still useable or is it garbage?

Also has anyone had experence with this tool? Are there any better ones to look at?

Thanks.

I have one and it works very well. Depending on the neck tension of the bullets you want to pull, most come out very useable with only a slight mark if any. Set the cam tension just enough to pull the bullet and lower the handle..........pretty simple.

The thing is freakin' awesome! The collets themselves don't make any marks, the only marks come from the case so it really depends on if your case mouth or necks manage to make any scoring marks on the bullet.

I don't have any other kind of bullet puller.

I do have more than one bullet puller, but the hornady works great on most bullet pulling chores. However if you have some bullets to pull with alot of neck tension and you are marking the bullet up getting it out, then I use my rcbs collet puller, I set it a few thou above the case and actually seat the bullet a little then pull it.
Works pretty good. I prefer the hornady as it is much faster, but for tough jobs I prefer the old rcbs.

a GREAT tool! easy to use once you get set correctly. some bullets don't drop out of the extractor when lowering the ram, but polishing the collet surfaces reduces this minor annoyance. now, the hornady runout correction piece of c--p is a total waste of money. it DOES NOT WORK! time to handload.
if i can see you, i can touch you.BANG!

I found when using the rcbs puller it more readily damages the bullet especially when there is a lot of neck tension. Were as the cam lock, with some care will leave bullets for the most part undamaged. And can be reused. Bullets smaller then 6mm wont drop out and are difficult to remove from both pullers with out needle nose pliers.

338Lapua,
I am a big fan of the hornady puller, I agree the rcbs can deform bullets with to much pressure, That is why I stated I set it a few thou above the case neck and actually seat the bullet a few thou before pulling, works pretty good on the real hard pulling bullets. Also somtimes it helps to use the next size bigger collet, and somtimes not! 95% of the time the hornady works great. and if I could only have one it would be the hornady.
