You will need a vey slow twist for them. Many years ago I was looking for a good groundhog bullet in 30 cal. and the best I could find was the 130 gr. Speer hp`s. But they were for a factory twist rifles.

I've shot them in a 1-17 30Br with good results, but for live varmint only. usually I shoot 118BIB for paper.

I also have shot them in a 1-13.5 308, at really high pressures with outstanding results.

Savage 10t with 20" 1:10 barrel .308. Palma brass, cci450, 50.0gr cfe223 with 110vmax. Consistently in the .3's with 5 shots from a bipod at 3100fps. Vmax can handle high rotational speeds until they hit something and then chunks everywhere. Best "audio" bullet for pdogs I have witnessed; very distinct "thwack"

I have heard that they are wicked on coyotes as well. Bang-Flop and the furs flys!

I shoot them in my 308, 30-06, 300WSM, 300WinMag, and 300Rum. They are a staple in my loading room.

These are the powders I use, with pretty much a full case.

308 H4198
30-06 H4895
300WSM Varget
300 WM RL17
300Rum RL17

What twist is your wsm? I'm wondering if they hold up to a 1-10 at wsm speeds

I have a 12 twist and a 17 twist, I have had a 10 twist in the past and the Vmax's held up fine, the load I use is 70 gr of Varget, I can load hotter than that with no problems. But with the 70gr load I can load a box of 100 Vmax's with one pound of powder and still get over 4000fps with good accuracy and no signs of pressure.

30" 12Twist Heavy Varmint

I shot Ks of the 110 VMax through my competition M1As in the short range stages. They are a pleasure to shoot in the rapids compared to everybody's all time favorite - 168 SMKs, and even beneficial in standing - reduced barrel time.

I can vouch for that because I do the same in my M1 Garand, I had to tweak the load so it would cycle properly but after I finally narrowed it down there was joy in Mudville. When I was developing this particular load at the range, a guy came over to check the Garand out, he seemed to know a lot about them. He saw the red tips and asked what bullets and load I was using, when I told him he got all pissed off and said "anything but 150gr bullets and 48gr of H4895 in that rifle is sacrilege" and stormed off. LOL

Dean,

We were at the Arkansas High Power Championship in 2012, my first string sitting was 100-8X, a tight knot with 2 barely leakers. While the targets were up a scorer a few target points over apparently glanced at my target and saw it, he had to come over to check out what "match rifle" I was shooting, and was surprised when he saw the 14 in my hands.

LOL I Love stories like that, a few years ago I was invited to shoot at a private club, and it was a real snooty place I felt out of place the moment I walk in. I was they only one not wearing a $100.00 polo shirt with the collar up. Anyway I was getting set up when two guys come over and say, and I quote "OH you have a savage That's nice" I shot one target and it was the best shooting I had ever done then or since, I don't know what the score was but it was tight. I soon realized I was not enjoying myself even with my good score, so got up thanked them and left, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the club house.
