Hornady 143gr ELD-X seating depth.

Hey guys,

What depth are you seating the 143gr Hornady ELD-X off the lands for best results.

I'm getting constant 1 inch groups with the COAL at 2.960 (I can load out much longer as I had the throat cut with minimal FB) and still allow rounds to feed out of magazine.

Some 140 SST'S I loaded at 2.960 COAL (different powder though, which was pulled from some factory 7mm SAUM) and reused to Fireform my brass gave me groups of well under half MOA.

I'm either thinking of trying Retumbo as it's been giving tiny groups in a mates 6.5mm SAUM or playing around with seating just off lands.

What is your advice?

Regards,

Michael.

I have shot a couple of hundred or so in 6.5 Creedmoor and they grouped best at 0.023-0.025" off the lands. At 100yds I got groups consistently under .5 MOA and many in the .3 MOA zone. This was with H4350. I presume you are shooting a .284 variant.

6.5mm/300 RSAUM is the cartridge.

I haven't played around with seating depth just yet, so had them seated to 2.960, same as some 140 SST'S. At that seating depth the SST'S went into well under 0.5 MOA. When I tried the ELD-X, the second shot printed an inch to the right of the first with the third shot creating a perfect cloverleaf and 1/2 inch below.

Which now leads me to believe the seating depth should tighten things up.
