I'm kinda interested in starting my Ruger Armerican 243 out on these Horn 103 gr. ELD-x.

Twist on this barrel is 1-9". Just wondering if anyone has done them similarly. I'll be trying Sta-Ball 6.5 first, and velocity will prolly be around 3000ish. jd

They shoot, pretty Well, in my 6XC at 2,970 fps with, 40.7 grs of StaBall 65 from, a 1-7.5 twist,..
Less than, 1/2 MOA without much, Bullet "Tuning".
You might call Hornady Tech, to see If, they will work, in a 1-9 twist
I'd guess that, they should Be,.. fine, at 3,000 fps +

Yeah, I figured they'd be "on the edge". You should be looking pretty good at 7.5 twist. I hate to waste the money if they're gonna suck.
I might look for something a little lighter, unless someone pops in and says, "THEY"RE THE BOMB!!"
My old Ruger 77 had a 10 twist, and the 105's I tried never did too well. jd

Not the same bullet, Hornaday 105gr shot very out of my 1/9 would not stabilize in a 1/10 twist

I haven't fired a shot through this rifle yet. Soooo, I suppose it would make mobetta sense to break it in with some of the more mid-weight stuff that I've got. That would give me a chance to see what kind of accuracy I can expect before I try a weight that might be marginal.

I've got a fair supply of 60, 70, and 85 gr. bullets, and a few 100's. jd

I had trouble with the 108ELD's in my 6BR, 1:8 twist. 103ELD did ok. Interesting result for me since the two bullets are almost identical length. Vel under 3000fps. If you push them faster you might be ok. Check numbers with a stability calculator and see how close you are.

I'm still waiting for Doc's OK on walking on my "new foot".

First range trip will be with prepped brass and a few bullets I've got on hand. Powder will be 6.5 StaBall, and H380 from when Jesus was a kid. Oh yeah, and the chronograph.

This little rifle is definitely a "poverty pony", and I just love it when I can make a silk purse from a sow's ear. -- we shall see! jd
