Horizontal Stringing

I know I should know this, but I'm going to ask anyway. When I was load testing at 315yds today, I found a load that had a vertical of 1.2", but the string horizontal was about 1MOA. Is this due to the wind, shooter, or load? I had about a 3-5mph wind from my right. I did manage to pull together some tighter groups when the wind calmed down or when it sustained through a string of fire. Here is the target:

Here are a couple more so you can compare what it did with other loads being tested.

42.5 grains Varget, Only took three shots because I was just playing around with Varget. Never had much luck with it.

Out west, we call that wind deflection. In some other areas, like the Memphis Shooting Sports Association Range, they don't have that. ;) [br]
Seriously, put up some wind flags, pay attention to them and it will make your load development more meaningful and help your wind reading.

So would you use that first load shown for competition? (42.6 AR Comp) The 42.5 of Varget is getting a second look also.

Thanks for your help

I would shoot it over a chronograph to check velocity spread. But, it looks pretty good. Are you planning to shoot Mid Range or Long Range? What is the cartridge and bullet?

Long range in .308 with the new Berger 168 Hybrid. This particular load gives me the velocity I need. Last time I chronoed the load it had an ES of 10. I did seat it .015" deeper from the intial test to take care of a flier. Have a feeling my ES tightened up some too. I'll have to double check that theory first.
