Hone a Redding Indicator body?

Anyone know someone who’d hone the 6BR body a few thousandths to fit a BRA? I’ve asked my local smith, Redding & Forster and no one is willing.

I’ve come to really like the indicators as the last station in my Dillon 550 to measure seating depth as they come off the press.

Thanks for any help.

Is the body of that die case hardened? If not, it would be easy to modify. If it is case harder like a resizing die, then you can understand the problem.

I'm a little surprised that Redding can't just make you one outright.

Maybe if you offered provide a reamer they would be willing since it really isn't that different for them if that die reamer is in hand?

If all you are using it for is to check seating depth on a progressive press, it may not be necessary to have a perfect fit. It may run with something close enough to guide the neck and bullet since that will be enough to get it lined up well with the comparator plunger.

My thoughts as well. I called and was told they just don’t provide this service. And I agree, all I care about is measuring length so I’d be happy with *any* case body that would fit the BRA.

You can measure length with a 6br indicator. Just not shoulder bump..

Not really, that’s the problem. The die body is tapered to a BR instead of the BRA straight walls, so it will “size” the walls. Hence the need to hone a few thousandths from the inside.

Oh sorry! I’m waiting for a 6br indicator myself... hmm in the same boat as you then.. can I get a gunsmith to use my reamer perhaps?

That’s what I’m trying to find out as well. I’d imagine if you supplied the reamer it wouldn't be a problem. If you find someone willing to do it, I’d pay for the job if you’ll have him do two!!

Well, apparently none of this is necessary, at least for the 6BRA spec I have.

Finally got a 6BR indicator and the sized BRA brass fits no problem for my purpose - checking seating depth.

Go figure.
