hog panels to keep hogs out

I am trying to keep most of the corn from being eaten by those hogs. Once the feeder starts throwing, the hogs comes running and gobbles most of the feed by the time the deer comes around. So I bought some 3 foot hogs panels to see if it will keep them at bay. I put the feeder on the edge of the pen so the hogs will get some corn on the outside of the pen while the deer would get the majority of the corn on the inside. I also included a protein gravity feeder in there.

Has anyone had less sightings of deer inside / around the pens than without the pens? Do the deer feel trapped by that pen method? Just a thought. I also set up a game camera out there.

It sounds like a good opportunity to shoot some hogs. I've seen hogs climb over 5 ft panels so not sure your gonna keep them all out. Might deter the small ones, the big ones are gonna tear 'em up to get at your corn. The deer will hop right over shouldn't scare them.

Im all over this...

The bigger the fence around the feeder the better... we use 8 to 10 hog panels. Deer will jump inside it. BUT if there is corn on the outside of the fence they tend to eat it first.

It will keep hogs out for the most part if its sturdy. Cows... cows will knock it down to get to the corn.

As far as making a hog trap out of it too.. thats a no go... you need cattle panel with a top edge around it... hogs will jump out of that hog panel easy when threatened.. ive walked up to a trap and had them jump over cattle panel right in front of me.

But yes, it will help is the answer to your question

I assumed that the bigger fenced area was better, but that is a ton of work, lol. Sand is hard to drive those stakes in plus too much thick brush to clear out. We are only allowed to shoot 2 hogs and two big bucks per season.

To give it more room, I could move the corn feeder to the middle and relocate the gravity feeder elsewhere with a pen for it.

Put a gravity feeder up With the feed tubes high enough so the hogs can't reach them .

Texas, its the rules of the landowner for lease management. Of course they are feral, but there are no food plots out there, just thick brush.

Dang you could all of mine you wanted. Good advice to set the gravity feeder higher. Those hogs are just waiting to hear that spinner.

Why fed the deer at all. They have been finding food for over 100,000 years. Shoot the hogs.

TackDriv3r,

You've got the right idea, that pen will do the trick. I've been fencing my feeders here in Texas for 15 or 20 years now. As others have mentioned, bigger is probably better, but I bet you'll be surprised as to how many deer you see in that feeder pen at a time. I killed this one inside a feeder pen very similar to yours last November.

I know, I know it's not PC but my first thought was if you made the feeder look like a Mosque, with a blaring "calling to prayer" siren...hogs will disappear.

then again that might induce another problem...never mind.
