hodgdon powder cfe223

hello

i was looking on the hodgdons web site and i see they are offering a new poweder.its called cfe 223,wondering if anyone has tryed it?they say its a spherical powder,i am not formilliar with this type of powder what are the pros and cons of a spherical powders??it looks like it would be a good powder for the 223 and the 90 grain bullets,and the 308 as well. ???

spherical powder AKA ball Powder Winchester type.
Double base Nitro glycerin. look up winnchester powders.
Meters excellent, a bit dirty at times, temperature sensative at times other wise really great powders.

I've also been looking for data & experience-based feedback on CFE, and haven't seen much yet. Am currently working with 90s in a new 30" Bartlein 5R, 1:7.2tw bbl. in 223 for my R5 tubegun, and though Viht N550 is probably going to be the powder to beat, am always open to trying something new. Don't know how the burn rate of 223CFE will compare to N550 or to PP2000MR, but would like to find out.

I just became aware of this stuff this past week too. Looks like a fairly versatile product given the range of cartridges they say it'll work in, maybe a bit faster burning than N550. Hodgdon's reloading data suggests it's appropriate for Palma with 155's....

My current favorite - 8208XBR - seems hard to beat & I don't have copper fouling issues with any of my rifles so it'll be awhile before I get around to trying some. Lots of cans & bottles of stuff I'll probably never use sitting on my powder rack.

happy new years

went to the range today and tryed some new powder cfe 223.i was very surprised how dirty it was,shot only 16 rounds doing a ocw test started with a clean bore and after the 16 rounds were fired it was very noticeble tthe carbon on the crown.
this powder meters very well as its a fine ball powder,but accuracy was so so in my rifle.

30 inch krieger
1 in 7 twist
using 90 grain berger vlds

any one else tryd this powder yet in 308??
