Hodgdon 50 BMG Powder For 375/408 Cheytac

I was wondering if anyone has used Hodgdon 50BMG powder to reload for the 375/408 cheytac round. I am aware that in some people’s opinion Retumbo is the go to powder for this case size. On the other hand, VV N570 appears to be growing in popularity for the 375 cheytac. There is a school of thought that the 50BMG power is too slow for the 375/408 case size while some have suggested this powder produces excellent results; AKA Kirby Allen as used in some of his larger caliber builds. Any thoughts on this subject of optimal powders for a 375/408 chyetac would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Dan

I am interested in hearing experienced user's thoughts on this subject. Great question Dan!

FWIW I run the CT imp RL50 is my go to powder for it from 325 to 450 grain projectiles.

IMHO Retumbo is a little quick for the standard CT, RL33 could be worth a look at or RL26 even ???

I seen barrel that had rifling burned out to 6" from muzzle from a 7STW shooting 50BMG powder. Burned out in 450 rounds. I'd keep a close eye on that if you switch to that powder.

I have a .375 Allen Mag. (.375 Chey-tac case body has less taper & a 40 degree shoulder)- Kirby recommended Reloader 33 with the 350 gr. SMK right up at the lands. - Starting load of around 133.0 gr. & work up. - The rifle that I have is a switch-barrel BAT action (Model "L" 2.0 dia.) and I have barrels chambered as well in .338 Allen Mag. - Right now I'm working with the 338 but soon will swap to .375. - The .338 has been a "bear" to get tuned. - All my barrels are 36" in length & are heavy contours (1.700 for 10" then str. taper to 1.250) with no brake. (Gun weighs 65 Lbs. - meant for a bench only - Stock is a BIG ST-HG Tracker on front & rear rails). - I'll let you know how the .375 goes, hopefully better than the .338 has, which has no trouble making velocity but the copper fouling is horrible & accuracy has not been anywhere on par with what my expectations are. - I'm going to swap to another barrel I have (in .338) & try it. - I'm wondering if maybe the first barrel that I've tried wasn't lapped properly. - I've spent a ton of time breaking the barrel in & it continues to foul badly & shoot below par.

Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, I'll post some findings when I shoot the .375 A.M.
