Hobaugh barrels

A few years ago my father in law gave me a 22-250 that he built (had built ?) around 1964. It has a Mauser action and a huge heavy barrel that he said was made by Hobaugh Rifle Barrels out of Montana (he thinks ?) It is a right handed bolt and i'm a lefty. The big heavy wood stock on it does not fit me well at all so i'm thinking of putting it in a new stock that is more lefty friendly. Anyone familiar with these barrels and also how can i identify what Mauser action it is ?

On the top front of receiver there is a seal. Take pic and post here. Sometimes these get sanded off for scope rings. There should also be markings on the side. Post pic of those.

Sorry, no idea on the maker

Hobaugh did make barrels in MT in that era. They were very good barrels for the time from the reports I have heard

Bill Hobaugh Philipsburg MT passed away about 20 yrs ago was in his 90's
had a couple of his barrels all shot very well

If you can email pics I could help you out . I'd also like to have first shot at buying the old stock ,if you plan on selling it . My email is ggmac5@aol.com
Have you shot it ? I ask just to determine how much life it could have left in it , a 22-250 , especially using loads and powders of the time , have a short barrel life .

Ggmac. I've shot it quite a bit, it is a tack driver but not for me. My father in law shoots bug holes with it. He is a large man with big hands and he shoots right handed. I am of average build and left handed. I've seen what the rifle is capable of with my handloads and father in law behind the trigger but i can't make it happen. I'm a decent shot and shoot all my other stuff very well so i'm pretty well convinced it's just that the stock does'nt fit me worth a crap, it does'nt feel right at all. I'd like to try to ID the Mauser action so i can start to shop for a new stock. I will get pics tomorrow and send along and yes if i sell the stock i'll let you know. Thanks. Barry

Father in law told me tonight the action is a Manchurian Mauser. Gonna try to get some pics here in a bit.
Hope it isn't a manchurian ! , doubt it is . Not a Siam , so hopefully a CZ , German or FN
Manchurian were unique and only resembled a Mauser . Firing pin assembly is made of unobutainium . The Chinese copies are just as bad . But easier to order stocks for , not that I'd shoot one in 22-250 .
Could it be a Jap action , basically a modified Mauser . Strong and was widely used for sporters .
