High wind groundhog shooting.

Yesterday my wind meter continuously showed gusts from 18 to 26 mph all day, made for tough shooting as gh's wouldn't show themselves but for only a few seconds,i saw ten, shot at 6,dropped 5 and missed a shot at 275 yards by a hair due to wind.
Still a decent day,the field is larger than it appears,as the corn from my vantage point is 600 yards. All were shot within 10 feet of their dens.Hornet never ceases to amaze.

What is wrapped on the end of your barrel?

Good job with the groundhogs. I'm impressed that you did as well as you did with the Hornet at the distances that you mentioned. You must be a very good shot and that Hornet must be shooting really well. I hunted Groundhogs in Ohio for several years and have been thinking about going back out there. Good luck with your future hunts and continue to share some pictures and stories with us.

I'm an exceptional shot bar none ,swat trained and on the deer culling swat team, however no longer in swat, thats for 20,and 30 year olds.My hornet is a shooter and anything to 300 I can drop with precision shot execution.Remember practice is the key and on my job it never ends. No affront to those who can't shoot as well. Plenty long distance guys here can outdo me for sure.A 200 yard zero only drops -6 in about, although a 50 yard is my preferred, and that gets you a -7,still cruising about 2200 fps and over 200 ft pounds, enough for coyotes and gh's ,most shots in Ohio are 250 max,but they're are exceptions. When shots are in excess of 300,there's the 204.

I shoot a 6BR 58 Hornady V-Max about 3585 fps. I sight in about
2.25" high at 100
this gives me about 2"" high at 200
0 at 275
about 3.0 low at 300.
If the GH is between about 80 to 225 yds I aim where his belly touches the ground.

Last year I missed two standing hogs at only 215 yards in a strong cross wind. I wanted a crawler shot but the hay was too high, so it was either take the standing shot or pass. Being full of bravado, I took the shots and missed. :(

Don't need to tell any experienced shooters, wind is the bane of our sport but that's what makes it challenging if not fun. ;)
