Hey guys I need some help

I am a pretty good shot with small calibers. but I just got a customized 7-08 back, built on a Rem MT rifle, its very light, I kept a skinny barrel on it for a Hiking deer gun. My problem is I cant shoot it. I thought it was a dud but my friend who shoots a lot of 308s got one hole out of it. My accuracy is about 3/4" I know that is ok for hunting, but after seeing .16", .75" is not very satisfying. Obviously the problem is my technique. I am shooting off a cement bench, with a good BR front rest a sandbag in the back. I am holding just the back with my other hand on the rear bag. I tried holding on to the forend tightly and groups got a little better but my friend can shoot it just great, unfortunately he was no help in describing his technique. In a nutshell I cant shoot any lights rifles above 22-250 accurately any tips would be greatly appreciated.

No flame intended, just recalling my own experience. It sounds like it is all in your head. If you can shoot a 22-250 accurately and you know that your 7mm-08 is super accurate then most of your problem is in your own head. You are anticipating the recoil and changing the pressure of your trigger hand on the rifle or your cheek weld is not in the same spot every time or you are slightly flinching most likely. Remember, you will not have a bench to shoot off when you are hunting so don't worry about tiny groups. Practice hunting position shooting and placing the bullet into the vitals of the animal. I have a friend that can shoot bug holes with almost any rifle off a bench but put a deer in front of him and he can't hit a barn.

i have two factory guns, a savage in 7mm08 and a rem. 7mm rem. mag. both shoot in .4 with a harris bipod. this is the first time user, shot four groups in a row in .4 and under.give it a try, with a hart rest and a number 1 bag, the gun is not as stable as the bipod........jim

just my .2cents are you shooting the gun free recoil? Most guns with more recoil than a 6br or ppc dont handle free recoil well. also when you go to the range set up and take a few dry fire shots, make sure to follow through the trigger pull and then shoot and group. Hope this helps
