Howdy Men,
I had the opportunity to acquire 1000 of these, and dont know anything about them, except for what a quick search revealed. Appears they may be from around the 50's, and could have been made by Lapua, maybe Speer and the general gist is they shot pretty well. Can anyone shed any further light on this company and the bullets they sold by mail order....

A lot of Herter's bullets AND brass was made by Norma. I have 270 and 30 cal bullets as well as 6mm Rem and 270 brass. It holds up very well.

Yes and they kill things deader than dead.

I used a lot of Herter's 50gr HP's in my 223 bolt action, even won a local BR match with them and their 220 RN's in my 06 for deer in the forest of northern MN.

Mr. @LoanHarvey you made my day! In the late 50s I bought my first custom built rifle from Bob Olive's news stand and record shop in Magnolia Arkansas. It was a 244 Rem built on a small ring Orbendorf (forgive the spelling) 98 Mauser, canjar set trigger, Flaig Ace heavy barrel, and a Fagen stock. It was built by Pat Johnson, Bob's favorite smith. Back then you could order those bullets from Herters in boxes of 1K, bet I shot 3K of them and loaded them up with a Lee hammer set and 47.5gr of surplus 4831 that Bob had 55gal drums full of for very little money. Don't think he even weighed it, just scooped up a paper sack full and gave it to me. The river ran through our farm and when the crows and buzzards all learned to stay at least 300yds away I shot river turtles. Before industry went in up river there were thousands of big turtles on all the logs and I promise you one of those 70grs will spread turtle fragments 50yds over the river! Wore that barrel shooting those bullets, good memories... John

Yeah I hate to admit it but water quality got too tough for them and the dams got built and they run the river up and down so much they can't lay and hatch eggs on the sand bars . Them and the frogs have gotten so scarce that I feel sorry for them. Haven't shot one in years, but it's still open season on anything that has hooks on their feet, or is a danger to calves or fawns.. John
