Here’s another old gun#2

With the success of the old 30-30’s shootability, I’ve dragged my grandfathers/ old Remington Model 14 out of the safe. It’s in 35 Remington, a great old woods cartridge. My father took this gun to a Smith and had a scope installed. He used it for years as his deer rifle. I have it’s twin, unmolested, as well as one in 30 Rem. Seems Grandpa liked these guns. I have brass for this one. I’ll just need to find some bullets.

Saw one like it less scope in .30 WCF I think, (Years Ago in Coudersport PA Gun shop) , and have regretted not buying ever since. Love the way they put a cartridge in the action and the swirl in the magazine tube. Don’t see these anymore

Yup. It was probably a 30 Remington. Close to a 30-30 but without the rim. Mine has a cracked stock that I need to make a replacement for. Cracked Stocks were common in the Model 14s. As I understand it, the swirl in the tube allows the use of pointy bullets. The swirl keeps the points off the primer of the next cartridge in the tube..

Thanks for the info. Always wondered why they were swirled.

Ordered a 200g Lee,gas check mould this a.m. for a bud's Ruger 358W.

Apparently? It's the right stuff reading interweeb dope. I'll let you know how it works, probably be a month or so. I'll mail you some freebys if you're interested.

Cool thought. Too bad I left 100 pounds of lead in my shop in Delaware.

Well, this way you get a headstart on it. If they don't work peachy, you remelt save the GC's and reinstall. I'm sayin,a starting JB load with a medium burn powder, should put you in the 10's pretty durn quick. Get the nose diameter,and/or tapered to dial in the fit and launch no different than jacketed. 2200fps would be a solid goal.

I killed my first buck with a .32 Rem model 14 back in 1965. I bowered it from a friend.
He would never sell it to me for some reason.
leadhead

I had one of those in the carbine model (141) in 35 Rem. Shot very well, quite accurate. Picked it up for my wife to use as she shoots left handed. She didn’t shuck it hard enough and it would jam on her, I never had an issu with it but when I picked up a Browning micro hunter LH in 7mm-08, I let the 141 go….I’d like to have it back for the ‘cool’ factor, but I’d likely not use it. I think there’s a resurgence of interest in these 35 REM’s for the new IA deer caliber regs passed last summer.
