helping a friend

I am helping a friend of mine out who is new to reloading. He is buying his dad a complete reloading kit.I can help him with everything as far as the tools press and dies. But I need load recomandations for the 7mm rem.(what powders, primers, ect) I have never reloaded for this caliber so I would appreciate any help I can get.I know it is a Browning semi-auto is all he can tell me about it.So don't know twist rate. Thanks for any help!!

Run large mag primers
imr 4350, h4350 imr, hybrid 100V, 7828 will cover all weights of bullets.

I am about to blaspheme, but I suggest for his BAR that he stick with factory rounds. auto's run best FL sized, and belted mags can get tricky. besides, i bet he runs less than 2-3 boxes a year. Just a thought, don't beat me up.

Please consider buying a loading manual (I like Nosler's for hunting loads). Too many folks are relying upon internet info instead of pressure tested loads with known components. Will be worth it's weight in gold down the line.

The best thing he could do to prevent misfeeding and mishaps is to get a Hornady headspace measuring tool and digital calipers to properly set up the FULL LENGTH sizing die to set the shoulder back to where the factory unfired ammo was at. That would be deemed a bit "sloppy" for most precision reloaders - but is good for a hunting rifle and no problems. Full-length sizing and setting shoulders in this manner will result in much shorter case life as we know - but he should still get around six to ten loadings using less than max loads from reloading manual data. Mag primers and any domestic commercial brass will do. I have the BAR in 7 mag and it is easy to load for but if anything other than a full-length die and proper shoulder pushback may spell problems. I recently saw one of these (also in 7mm Mag) completely blow into a bunch of pieces. I surmised the operator had a stuck round in the chamber and when pulling the bolt back, released it, thus stripping another round towards the chamber - with bullet tip hitting the primer of the one in the chamber. The guy was very lucky. I would have paid the guy some nice dough for the beautiful buttstock as much nicer wood than mine. Too bad it was broken in half. IMR 4350, Reloader 22 and Winchester 760 have worked well for me. I prefer the Federal Magnum Match primers but all seem to work well.

I would recommend research on the internet on how to load. have a friend that has loaded before help.
Then go to the powder brand they have recommended loads. start low and work up.

Headspace on shoulder by using proper shoulder set back with a FL size die.

Federal 215M

Bullets will be dependent on twist(9 1/2tw?) and seated to mag length may encroach usable powder space. Of course application will dictate also. Whitetails, 140 gr. Nosler BT?
A lot of unknowns for specific recommendations.
I would think you wouldn't want to push it real hard in that action.

Thanks to all for the help.My friend and his dad will be both reloading with this set up.My friend will be loading for his 243 so I can help him easy I just was not sure about the 7mm.Thanks guys!!

Mrmajestic's described components, adding 140 Barnes TTSXm is the absolute best load in my 7mm BAR
