help with wipeout/patchout!

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I know this is dumb but here goes.Does wipeout patch out remove any carbon?
Have you guys used their carbon remover and how good does it work?
I am currently using jb or Iosso to remove the carbon ring and carbon in the barrel.
#3rd After using the wipe out I got zero carbon on the patch and I tried Iosso to see if it removed anything ,one stroke ,it was black with carbon . I then continued using the Iosso to get the ring and carbon out of the groove's etc.

Jon, I have found wipeout/patch out very effective for copper but not so with carbon. I have found the need to be more aggressive to remove the carbon from the bore. I can get a perfectly clean patch after applying and allowing patch out to soak but when I check the bore with my bore scope the copper is gone but it hasn't remove much if any of the carbon.
I haven't tried their carbon remover and will be interested to hear from other that have as well.

Try some good old ORIGINAL Hoppe's #9. I had a bad carbon build up years ago and we tried Iosso and JB's, but Hoppe's #9 was the one that took it out, after lots of work. This was before the days of Wipe out. I buddy with a borescope says carbon remover works. Another thought is GM top end engine cleaner.

I found the same results. My high dollar Shilen barrel was losing accuracy. All I had ever used was Wipe Out. I had zero copper as I would leave the Wipe Out in overnight and clean it out in the AM. But still, my accuracy was going away. I finally succumb to using a brush and good ole #9. I was amazed how much crud came out. It took awhile, but eventually I got clean patches. Next trip to the range yielded .180" 5 shot groups @ 100. I guess sometimes the "old school" methods are the best.

I have had great success with Bore Tech C4 Carbon Remover Bore Cleaning Solvent. Because of the high price I have tried MANY other types. For me this works the best by far in my 6.5x284 which seems to carbon foul more than anything I have owned. (never a problem with copper)

In my experience Iosso turns black on a spic n span clean bore. I bought 2 wipe out carbon cleaners and both leaked all over the place. Squirted around the button with some force. I really liked the engine top end cleaner that Sinclair used to carry. It took care of carbon in a flash.

Thanks fella's,I guess it is back to the old #9 hoppe's but the only thing is it is not as strong as it used to be.I will admit that after using Iosso it was back to nice and smooth feeling.

I have had good luck using Montana extreme copper killer (old BMG 50), it kept the carbon under control without heavy brushing. I also bought 6 wipe out carbon cleaners (WOCC) cans and all leaked all over the place. Squirted around the button of the top. The WOCC seemed to work but the cans were imposable to use. Would like to get my money back.

I have been using Shooter Choice for a while but never had a problem with Hoppes working, I think letting it soak for a bit while you do your loading or prep helps give it time to do it's thing.

Jon,

Put some Iosso or JB on a clean patch. Rub it vigorously on the outside of your SS barrel. It'll come off black.

You know that there is no carbon on the *outside* of your SS barrel.

Conclusion: black with Iosso means zip.

Take it FWIW.

Hi Jon,

I have used wipeout with excellerator with not much success. Then I switched to Butch's bore shine and then went with Bore Tech. After looking at the bores with the Hawkeye Bore Scope, I went back to Butch's bore shine IMO this does a good job on copper fouling. I used Bore Tech C4 for carbon build up. Good shooting, Gene

I also had the same problem with a leaking cap iwith WipeOut and wrote an email to them and a few days later they sent a free bottle that did not leak. Good customer support!

Does the wocc come in a spray bottle or a squirt bottle. I am guessing the piston pump leaks?

Sure wish I had bore score. I.e. switched to wipeout few weeks ago. Seems to do good job. I had been using Montana copper killer, but the smell was very strong. Just ordered me the carbout to try.

I did scope a barrel I had cleaned with Montana copper killer and JB, and that thing was shiny as anything. No trace of fouling at all

I use a mixture of 1/3 Kroil and 2/3 Butche's Bore Shine. Soak it and patch it out. This is for powder fouling. I then use the Patch Out. I'm not in a hurry so i soak it overnight. Seems to work well.

My w/o carb can leaked all over too. Never did get to use it. All the Bore Teck has worked really good if you get the right one for the job but after you get each individual bottle it really adds up.Buch's is good all around cleaner. The Montana extreme is maybe stronger. The Bore Tech is about the least smelly and has a green factor if that is of value to you.

I don't believe in fixin something that ain't broke. Hoppe's #9 has worked for me for the last 50 years. No need to change now.

Anyone know what the patch would look like if carbon was still present using carbout?

Used mine and the soaked patch came out the yellow/brownish color of the solvent. The next patch came out white

Sip assuming there was no carbon present?
