Help with Timney featherweight trigger on K98

Hi all

First of all a very happy new year to all of you fellowshooters on accurateshooter.com,a swell of a new year and a great time and shooting throughout this 2015 period!!! I got a question to anyone here that may have gone through this before me:let me explain,I had a new rifle built on an original K 98 Mauser brought back from Lybia by my old man after he risked his life for the sake of France in WW II.I rebarrelled it in 6 Rem(True Flite,27",1/8twist),changed the original shroud for a new Browning type FN without flag safety(quite a neat update)....I also had to change the original trigger and so I ordered a featherweight Timney trigger, that I installed and set without fuss at 2lbs,problem is now if I open the bolt, press the trigger, and close the bolt,it doesn't work as it used to,instead of just closing without the firing pin being cocked,it holds the hammer of the firing pin assembly and lets it fly just like you shot the rifle....Has anyone of you ever encountered such an issue, and then ,how can it be fixed?By the way the stock has been replaced with a Boyds classic stock in forest camo that will be bedded soon hopefully, thanks in advance for your help.

Is your new shroud a 3 position safety? Does it do it with the safety disengaged?

Hi Jon
I was typing my compliments to you for your 8000 posts mark while you were already trying to help me...Hats off to you my friend,I'm so glad you're there and so glad you exist, thank you so much for all. And to come back and stick to my question,no,it doesn't do this when the safety is engaged,it does it when I open the bolt, pull it all the way back, push it back in,and then,as to have a loaded rifle uncocked, press the trigger and push the bolt lever back down;instead of just releasing the"hammer" of the firing pin assembly,as is the case when pressing the trigger prior to closing the bolt on any Mauser type action(Howa,Zolly,CZ,Winchester etc),this particular rifle with this particular trigger doesn't do it,it holds the hammer back and releases it like it was cocked, thus being really dangerous. And thus my question, especially aimed at any gunsmithing inclined individual around here,I know we have a bunch of them with us.Thanks for your help Jon,and whoever will pop up with a clue.

I just tried my mauser and the feather weight timney lets it down nice and easy when pulling the trigger while closing the bolt gently. If all else fails email timney and maybe they can advise you. Does your shroud have a 3 position safety?

One possible reason is that the cocking piece is not of the commercial type. The cut out on a military cocking piece sometimes prevents triggers like a Timney from functioning right.

With an FN 98 (military, post ww2) I once had, I silver brazed an infill piece which was finished down to size, polished and reblued. Worked fine afterwards.
