Help with stock selection

I am looking for a reasonably priced bench rest style stock for a rem 700. I don't compete other than against myself. I don't have a high end rest. I shoot steel and for groups from 100 to 1000 with a 6br and 22 dasher.

Neither are particularly heavy barrels (br is rem varmint and dasher is #5).

What are some good options in the $3-$400 range without huge wait times?

HS Precision makes a stock that may fit your needs. I put one on a 700 SA in 260 and it works fine for 600 yd club level shoots. I picked mine up at the link below. They had them in stock.

HS Stock info is:

Hope this helps.

If just doing it for fun and bag riding isn't super critical then I think the Sinclair Benchrest stock adapter is your best option. Assuming the rifles mentioned already have stocks of some sort. Should make them ride front rest bags just fine for what you want to do. Definitely the cheapest route too.

I am thinking of getting some for my varmint rifles. Must be a pretty good improvement. It received 5 stars from 5 reviews listed on the web site below.

I've got one of these that I put on an Anschutz .222 and I really like it, and I don't have to screw around changing tops or bags on my rest for shooting my dasher.

As far as stocks, about 2 weeks ago I was able to pick up an old/new McMillan HBR with 3 inch forearm that had never been inletted yet for an action on ebay of all places for $100....buy it now! Just saying if you are not in too big a hurry and look around, stuff does come up. The other ideas suggested though are all good also.

Best Wishes

Check out Stocky's website....they have (in stock) Bobby Hart design laminates for as little as ~ $200 in addition to the aforementioned H/S precision models

I have a Bobby Hart stock in full walnut on a 722. Might have to open the barrel channel a little if he has a pretty heavy barrel. Other than that, they have a nice fit and finish right out of the box. Probably the nicest stock I have seen in that price range.

Bell and Carlson makes great stocks at good prices. http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-BELL-%26-CARLSON-cln-Varmint-fdsh-Tactical/Categories

Check out post #12 :

and then go here to see how well it shoots (with a fairly new precision shooter and hand loader behind the trigger )
