Help with scope decision

I’m really thinking about buying the March highmaster 5-42. Will be using for 600yd matches and maybe some long range coyotes. Was hoping Someone might have some hands on experience with it. I’ve tried searching and not really finding much. Thanks in advance

you can never has too much magnification in competition, buy a 60.
i have none but am trying to get the upgraded 10-60x.
i have 15-55x nf, 12-42 x nf, 5-40x ior, and 10-60 ior.
really if you want to be competitive in small groups at 600 get a 60, if its ringing steel the 42 is probably ok

I have March and they are very good scopes, dependable, well made and great warranty with the only downside having to ship them to Japan for service. But, what better place to be serviced than the makers shop, right?

I’ve considered the 10x60 highmaster but would kind of like to have the ability to use in some nrl competitions or even elr. I’ve been researching the best my crappy internet skills will allow and there just doesn’t seem like much out there for the 5-42. I’ve been looking at the new vortex and the zco in the same power range but they’re on back order. Also not really fond of the in stock availability of the reticle offerings of the 10x60

join the club..no stock right now...maybe 1 or 2 months to go....so i put a 15-55nf on my new rifle till the 10-60's get in

The March scopes are usually made to order and it takes about 2 months to get the exact model you want. Deon is a small company and the riflescopes are all assembled by hand. I understand they have moved into a new factory last year and have added more technicians, but they can barely keep up with the demand. So it's best to select the scope you want, with the knobs and reticle you want, order it and then be patient. They do try to have some stock at a few distributors in the USA. Sometimes you can get lucky and find the exact one you want.

Now, let's talk 5-42X56 Vs 10-60X56.

The 5-42X56 is an FFP design with a huge adjustment range. The 10-60X56 is an FFP design with a smaller adjustment range compared to the 5-42X56. For F-Class with the tiny targets, I would recommend the 10-60X56 with an MTR-2 or MTR-5 reticle. However, many others prefer the MTR-1, MTR-3, or MTR-4 for F-class. It's up to you. Get the 1/8 clicks.

The 5-42X56 can be had in MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL. For F-class and other uses, the MOA/MOA would work with the FMA-3 reticle. However, the knobs will be 1/4 clicks.

I have been using a March-X 10-60X56 HM in F-class for almost 3 years now and I run it a 50X all the time. This is the riflescope with the shimmer protection.

I really appreciate the feedback. It’s a tough decision. Happy Independence Day by the way! Thankful to have this tough decision

Happy Independence Day to you as well. Before I power down the laptop to go partake in the festivities of the day, let me leave you with this tought.

This is indeed a tough decision. I know a fair amount about March scopes and I've written extensively about my experiences in F-Class with March scopes. I invite you to PM me directly if you have further questions about March or want to bounce a few thoughts at me. I don't sell scopes or anything related to shooting; I'm an old software engineer who specializes in databases and code migration; nothing to do with shooting though I do use a lot of triggers, Oracle triggers.

I may not respond right away, please be patient with me.
