Help with book value

Gary in MD

Gold $$ Contributor
I’m cleaning out some stuff and need help with the value on this first printing of the Precision Shooting Reloading Guide. I did a little research and saw a few prices that looked high.
It’s in near mint condition with one damaged page that was repaired with scotch tape years ago. I’m probably going to list it for sale but want an idea of what to ask.
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Well, I was hoping for an approximate value. I don’t need top dollar but don’t like to leave too much on the table.
I’m hoping some others will chime in.
Thanks for the interest,
Gary

Live prices on amazon. Not saying they are getting that money. But it is what they are asking.

3 of them showing so must be a combo of little demand and inflated price. Sounds like lots of guns I see for sell. I have always been of the opinion any item is only worth what you can sell it for today. Everyone one hopes to get lucky and find that person who will pay their price. I would be curious to know how long they have been listed for sell. Matthias, since your a Gold Member on here I hope you find that one person. Good luck.

Not mine. I would tend to agree with most of what you said. Except for the part about implying I am asking to much for a book I don't own and am not trying to sell.

Original poster wanted reference points for selling his.

When selling anything, it’s only worth what someone will pay at that time.
But most people would want to get whatever the market is bringing for that item that they are selling.
Hence the OP, Just trying to get an idea of what it’s worth. I’m seeing prices all over the place on Amazon and eBay....

There's a Precision Shooting Reloading Guide first edition currently on Ebay at $100 or best offer buy it now.

The dollar is worth less every day, shockingly so when I look back at the last 60 years or so.

Lots of low demand, not worth reprinting, but thin supply books such as Fred Sinclair's (last edition is the tenth) pamphlet, Ken Howell on Cartridge Conversion ($80 on Ebay) Harold Vaughn on Rifle Accuracy ($250 on Ebay) and a myriad of special interest from the now gone Paladin Press along with those from Precision Shooting that jumped when the publisher quit the business.

I think but can hardly know that some jumped for good and others will settle back down some way down.

If I could get some of the prices I've seen for books I bought new at publisher's prices I'd go to Africa. I suppose there have been sales at such prices but not many. Like the Hunt brothers trying to corner the silver market at those prices the number of copies offered for sale just might jump. Paladin Press reprints of the Spotlite books from Cooper and Cooper's Art of the Rifle are being offered at prices that look silly to me. I'd guess the market for Cooper is well past its crest. With the possible exception of Safari I'd say the same about Keith.

Mostly I notice the time when main stream publishers like Knopf would publish Bob Hagel is long gone. Winchester Press did a long run of good, some great, books. Maybe the declining supply makes those of us looking to read, especially over the winter, pay more for remaining supply. These days writers such as John Barsness have to fall in line with other genre writers like science fiction and self publish.

Be nice if the gun show merchants would report actual sales and prices someplace.

Darn!
After seeing some of those inflated prices, I thought I was going to be buying a NightForce after selling.

Those amazon prices made me wish I'd bought one back then. The only two books I ever bought from PS are a signed copy on Carlos Hathcock's 93 confirmed kills and Rifle Accuracy F.acts by Harold Vaughn, it isn't signed. I didn't even know they were available but someone on here yesterday said they had one

Its all in who you know. Glenn newick signed my benchrest shooting primer back in 1999. They didnt offer signed copies of that either

Market Value is what ever the market will bear. The longer you are willing to sit on an item the greater your chances of getting what you are asking in most cases as prices tend to swing with both demand, supplies and trends. If no one will buy it you lower the price until someone will buy it. Some items swing a lot more based on what is driving their value and their demand. You never want to take a loss.

The market you are selling to matters as well.

I would be willing to pay $30 another person might be willing to pay $120 some person with more money than brains might be willing to pay $700 and at Goodwill it might sit on their shelf at $3 for months! This manual has no real intrinsic value unlike something like gold or a tool like a working lathe.

This is a niche book at best.
