Help with 6BR bushing sizes

AKShooter

Silver $$ Contributor
Hello, Trying to get some dies and bushings ordered prior to actually getting my barrel. I'll be shooting a shilen prefit so standard chamber, lapua brass and 107 sierras.

Will I have to wait to get a loaded round to measure for bushing size, or are there some generally accepted "standards" that would get me going.

I will not be neck turning to start

Thanks

It would be better to load up a dummy round to find your overall neck diameter then subtract 1 or 2 thou to give you your bushing diameter. Or as you know the bullet diameter and if you know the case wall thickness (x 2) you can work out the overall neck diameter from those dimensions to work out your bushing size needed.
My dummy round with a 6mm Berger 105gr VLD and the new Lapua brass (blue box) came to 0.2675/0.2680, so I am getting a .266 and .267 bushing. My chamber is a no neck turn one.

I am shooting 108 Bergers with Lapua blue box cases. I got similar measurements so I bought a .265 bushing. It was too small and gave too much neck tension, at least to my feel. I just received a .266 and a .267 to try.

Thanks guys, you both are really close to my setup as well, should have my blue-box lapua on friday, have the 107 sierras. I have to mail order, and still need dies, really just would like to make the one order. So .266 and a .267 it is, and should at least give me a place to start, maybe end too.

Thanks
