Help wanted please 30-375 Ruger

Hi
I currently use a 300WSM in F Class Open based on a Barnard P action, Krieger 1:10, 32 inch barrel and tracker style stock. My load uses Berger 190 and 210 gn VLD projectiles
I have also shot the 215 and 230 gn Berger Hybrid projectiles with great accuracy but I would like to launch the 230gn Berger Hybrid in the low 2800fps range for the longer ranges of F Class competition.
That is where I need your help. I like the fat belt less magnum cases and read on this site of people necking down the 375 Ruger to 30 cal.
Could some one with first hand information on the 30-375 Ruger please post how I go about forming the brass down, what dies I need, reamer size, neck turn size or no neck turn. Any information would be greatly accepted.
I was also thinking about using the 300Win Mag but as I said I did not want to use the belted mag case.
I thought of using the 300 RUM as dies and brass are readily available and no forming is needed, any thoughts or comment ?

Cheers
Paul

I made my own forming dies but you could use a 338 RCM as an intermediate step before running it through the 30-375 die. Hornady makes dies for the 30-375 it is called the 30 HSM which has the shoulder pushed back slightly. The cartridge is a little overbore but you should reach the velocities you want. I use H1000 in mine with the Hornady 225 BTHP. I have do some 230 Hybrids but have not yet worked up a load with them.

For F-Class the round with the 230s will beat you up some.

Hi James
Thank you for your reply.
I searched on the Hornady web site and they have 300 RCM dies and cases.
No forming needed.
James, I run the Berger 210 gn VLD's at 2860 fps so I'm hoping the 230s at 2800 fps won't be much harder on my shoulder. My rifle weighs a bees whisker under 10 kg.
thanks James.
Cheers

Paul,
FYI the RCM is a Short action case similar in capacity to the 300 WSM.
The 30 HSM is a Long action case similar in capacity to a 300 Ackley improved and 300 Weatherby. The 30 HSM is a custom die but they have in the past had them on the shelf.

Hi James
I have searched the Hornady web site and nothing shows up as 30 HSM. Do yo know where I can get the dies and cases, or is it a Hornady thing?

Cheers
Paul

You won't find it on Hornady's website since it is a wildcat based on the 375 Ruger. Call Hornady and ask to talk to Ben Syring he can let you know about die availability.
Yes this is just a Hornady thing.

Hey Paul, here is a link that provides detail of the dies you need to make these cases!

300 Dakota...will do it all and efficiently, just alittle above the 300WSM. No custom dies, Reamers , etc. Maybe check it out. A 210 Berger at 2900-3000 FPS no reason for anymore powder or case capacity. The couple guns I had built sure shot well at 1K Matches back in 2000 at Deepcreek. Pete

Paul. Excuse my feeble mind. I did have Lonnie at Hornady build me A set of bushing dies for the 300 Dakota and a Bump die. For eack gun.
The first time I had the reamer cut for a 330 chamber, neck wall at .010 , .228 loaded round. This gun shot very well and did hold A record at deep Creek for awhile. My first match put 8 rounds in 3 1/2 "triangle. I called the two shots that were out, the bolt cammed alittle tight on those two, did a 6" group the other two bullets almost touching but high.
I sold that gun,an aluminum modular 65# and built number two with Heavy Mcmillean stock and weighed 45#. this gun I just barely touched the brass with the cutter, literally a no turn. I think a .340 chamber. Don Allen did not have Norma 300 yet but did have it in .330 Dakota so my brass in hand that I kept from eack gun is stamped 330. Pete

I was shooting 220 gr Sierra's gun#1 since the Bergers were not yet on the market. The 210 Bergers I shot in second gun.
Water capacity ...
WSM 78.1
Dakota 93.6
Ultra Mag 112.8

I just thought I would let you know what path I took with this rifle build.
Last December I visited the SARA Shop in Adelaide to buy up on powder projectiles etc. Talking with the manager about the 30-375 he said he had 2 300 Win Mag PT&G reamers sent when he only ordered 1. Just a miss communication some where.
So I took the easy way out and purchased the 300 Win Mag reamer, took it straight to my Gun Smith with OAL gauge and a 30 cal, 230 gn Berger Hybrid and the rest is history.
I am just waiting for the barrelled action to be posted back, the stock is being painted and then the testing begins .
When it arrives I will try my best to post a pic of it.
Cheers

Paul, you cant beat the 300WM. alot of records done with it. Brass is cheaper to. Good luck on the rifle. Pete

The barrelled action arrived last week so I will be loading up some rounds tomorrow for running in and load development.
Does any one have some starting or accurate load data they would like to share ?
I want to use 230 gn Berger hybrids and I will probably set the sights for a 700 yard zero.
Cheers
Paul
