Help w/ 21st century neck turner

I seem to be having some difficulty adjusting the 21st century neck turner and having repeatable cuts. Are the two set screws (one for the blade, one for the adjustment wheel) supposed to be tight when adjusting? I seem to be experiencing a lot of play in the wheel when the screws are loose, but when they are tight, I can't move the wheel. When the screws are loose, I can move the wheel, but there is so much play/backlash that making minute adjustments is impossible for me.

Aside from my problems adjusting the turner, I can't seem to get the turner to stay within a decent tolerance, even on the same piece of brass. I use a powered motor w/ case holder (i.e. a mini-lathe) and I hold the neck turning tool with my hand, but I can't seem to stay any better than 0.0004" neck thickness tolerance, which seems awfully high.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Set screw for dial needs to be loose when adjusting, then tightened. You may need to back out or go in 1 revolution before adjusting in the opposite direction to take up slop in threads. You should be able to get +/-.0002 or better with multiple finish passes. +/-.0001 on many of your cases is a reality with experience, with a very few outside of that perameter.

Also, I have learned that taking just light "skims" at a time, rather than trying to get it done with heavier cuts, does a lot better for me. Best Wishes

With good intentions we are all here flapping our lips.............. and along comes the absolute best recommendation possible, the obvious place to get the best information.
