Help urgently needed with case neck run out.

I have a case neck run out problem.... after I bush neck size the cases I have neck run out of 0.004 and more. I use Redding dies and Norma, Sako and other brass... the same happens to all of them. :-[

Please help!

Perhaps you are taking the necks down too much in one step.. IE: fired cases are measuring .2935" and you are sizing them in a .2860" bushing.

Try keeping the amount of sizing to no more than .005" in one step , this has worked for me with regards to bushing dies.

Are you allowing the bushing to float?

When you shake the die, the bushing should rattle just a little bit. If not, turn the screw out just a touch until it rattles, just a little bit.

Did you remove the sizing button?

Unless your button is precisely sized, there's no sense dragging it back through the neck you just sized with your carefully chosen bushing.

Which Redding dies - they make several designs.

I am shocked... its the Redding die(Type S)!!!

I follow the Redding instructions to the letter... the bush floats/Has play... turning it down all the way and 1/8 turn loose. Shake it and is loose/rattle. Bush is clean etc.

I took some S&B once fired brass... checked the run out... less than 0.001" neck runout... cleaned 2 cases with polish and sized once with the Redding die and one with my old Lee neck size die.... same happend with Redding die and Lee stays less that 0.001".

To think I was looking for better buying Redding dies and press... cause many say its one of the best etc... and the Lee press and dies works better... Life's lessons and the collage of Hardknocks! My $32 Lee dies kick's Redding $100 die....

Thanks to that responded!... This is a awesome forum.

Sometimes it the brass itself. I loaded military 223 brass a they never came out concentric. .004 out. Hornady or lapua was concentric

Norma, Sako, Sellier & Bellot.

243 Win in this case... Norma, Sako and S&B

It happens with Norma, S&B and Sako....

My Redding comp dies. I lock down tight, not floating. floating I get .004 locked down I get .001 :)

I have found with both neck and full size bushings dies that sizing about half the neck results in run out of .001 or less. Sizing most of the neck will result in .004-.005 run out.
