Help Pls w/ RCBS FL Sizer & Forster Ultra Seater in 22BR

I'm new to this and I've gotten lots of help from this group and now I'm asking for some more.

I have a new 22br w/ .254nk. I'm using a RCBS FL sizer to bring the 6mm Lapua down to 22. Then I'm seating with a Forster Ultra Seater.

ISSUE 1

Resized brass measures .250, which I thought was good. Then I realized the RCBS is sizing the neck down to .242 and the decap/expander,.222 dia) is bringing the neck back up to .250. Obviously this is working the neck a bunch. btw, I decap in a separate step.

Q: Should I save the RCBS for just initial forming/sizing and use a bushing neck sizer for resizing fired brass? Alternatives would be to have the RCBS resized to .250?

ISSUE 2

Loaded necks measure .2515 which at first seems Ok, as that is .0015 tension; however, I noticed two things. First, the seating stem on my Forster Ultra Seater is creating a ring indentation on the bullets,69gr SMK) and second, there is an area at the top of the neck where the case shows crimping for lack of a better word. The dimension of the neck opening on the seater will barely accept the .250 case neck therefore when the bullet is forced into the case the neck has no room for expansion. As such, I think the .2515 neck measurement is false and reflects compression of the bullet.

Q: Has anyone else experienced this? I called Forster today but all the techs are at the SHOT show. I assume I need the neck of the seating die opened up but to what dimension? .252?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I agree with modifying the seating sleeve but don't you think the neck of the seater is creating a problem as well, not allowing the brass to stretch to accept the bullet?

I was using a rcbs "s" type 6BR f/l sizing die w/bushings, and the Forster ultra-seater. Mine was for a .250" neck though.. I was neck turning my brass obviously. What is the inside neck diameter on your sized cases. You may-be getting a lot more tension than you think..

Toot,

I will have to check that tonight once I get my son to bed. I agree I'm getting too much neck tension but I think it is from the inability of the brass to expand in the tight neck of the seater.

Wait... You are using a 6BR sizer with reduced neck bushings to resize your 22BR?? Why didn't I think of that?? I just got a Forster 6BR bushing sizer for a 6BR I'm having built on a Savage target action. I owe you a beer, you have to pay shipping)

Lynn, Thanks for the reply. I was going to continue to use my RCBS 22br die for initial sizing and the Forster bushing sizer to resize fired cases.

I still need to get the RCBS FL die I'm using for forming opened up so that the initial sizing is to .250 rather than .242

Another question.. when sizing with a bushing to proper outside neck dimension, do you still use the expander on a decapping stem or is that no longer needed?

"""Wait a minute there.Yes you can use a 6BR neck die to size your 22BR brass but you'll need a bunch of bushings to do it.The factory bushings don't have hardly any taper at all and you'll collapse your cases unless you go in very small steps"""

That's true Williams. I was turning my necks to .011" and then sizing. I also chamfered the heck out of the outside edge.
But, it worked great for me..

I wouldn't use the sizing button other than to hold the decpping pin. Then I would use a small one.. My .02 ..
