Help me--Zastava M85 - pro's, cons - opinions - for noob

Noob has asked me about a Zastava M85 for a first centre fire.

He says it's in 7.62- "7.62 what?" I asked ----no idea uncle owns it and want to give it to me for a coupla hundred. is his reply.
ME- What model
Him M85
Me-anything else you can tell me about the rifle??

Zastava AFIK are iron curtain copies of mauser 98's so it could be safe. Should be strong aand ugly and work in all conditions if other iron curtain guns are anything to go by but----- accurate and iron curtain AFIC dont go thogether without work.

I really have NFI about them but I thought I would ask here before I opened my mouth further.

I cannot just ditch this noob as he's the son of the MIL best friend and I like my wog cooked meals.

Usual game he's going after- ferals and pests vermin.


Can you guys give me any help here about M85's and history of them and whether you have owned one and What version of 7.62 it's possible going to be??

7.62x 39, 51, 54R 53 ????????????????????????

Look under "Sporting Rifles".
looks like it's going to be a 7.62x39. No idea about accuracy, but I think they're popular rifles. If nothing else, you can always rebarrel it into a 6BR.
